Quick question about Lexus free washes
Hey guys,
I just took my car to get the complimentary wash for the first time.
I didn't realize the car wash person was going to personally see me off.
Does this mean we are supposed to tip them?
I didn't think about it until after I left.
I feel bad about it if she was expecting one.

My dealer used to have a manual, people operated car wash but when they installed the "beater bar/brush/fabric strip" machine then I stopped having them wash the car.

If she was hot, and did a good job, you can always go back and tip her. Seriously, I NEVER let a dealership wash my car. Besides, they're always clean, so there's nothing to wash, really. But I still tell the service department to put a permanent NO WASH notice in their system after my first visit (if any). And Lexus is the worst here. They don't even have a proper bay, so they wash cars with a hose under the freaking sun. Geez. My last new Lexus was all scratched up when they failed to follow my instructions of not washing it. And you'd laugh if you saw the rag the dude used.

American custom, for me at least, is to not to tip anyone at a dealership. If you have a dedicated "detail" person, then I'd say yes.

Agree. No need to tip unless you're dealing directly with a 3rd party detailer. It's just the Lexus way to hand deliver your car by the last person involved available at that time you're picking it up. It could equally have been your Service Advisor or the reception desk and ask yourself if you would tip them...
On a related note, I skip all free washes and do it myself as I find the cleaning at times to have been mediocre (dirty wheels, rag marks, and dust in the interior) and the introduction of fine scratches on the clear coat and on certain interior trim pieces.
