I would say its not entirely true that buyers are not cross shopping. I have seen posters in the Bimmer forums considering the RC-F
Me too. Not only am I cross shopping these 2, but I'm also looking at other cars around the same price range. That's shopping 101 and I don't know how that's even debatable. I understand the point that some of the decision making is subjective, but that doesn't mean that tangible factors are irrelevant.

BTW - A couple of grand does matter to me on a 70k car even if it's not the dealbreaker. We are not buying Veyrons here, and money doesn't grow on trees (At least for me )

I agree with the above posters. If you are in the financial position to afford a RC-F or M4, a few thousand dollars either way will not influence your decision. It will largely boil down to which appeals more to you emotionally.

Well for those of you who are choosing between the M4 and RCF, why not consider the AMG line from Mercedes? Maybe I'm clueless, but isn't the AMG in the same game with M from Bmw? I love how luxurious and sporty AMG's look when I encounter one in the street, their exhaust and engine sounds really attractive as well. Seems like people have forgotten about the AMG from Mercedes. The new generation C AMG is coming out soon and the new class interior dominates both the beemer and lexus in terms of luxurious. I'm also pretty certain that sportiness wont be absent neither.

Oh, I have not forgotten about the C63 AMG coupe. I am heavily considering the 507 variant. I too am attracted to them when I see them on the streets. I have stopped looking at the RS5, though, as the M4 pummeled the heck out of it in most comparos. The C63 507 actually defeated the M4 in one of the earliest comparisons done in Europe.

I don't track my cars, but those of you who do are most likely aware the C63 trailed the F and M on track time.

I just can't push myself to do German again...too much maintenance.

But, if that's the way you want to roll, also consider the R5:

The RS 5's 0-60 (3.9 seconds) and quarter mile (12.3 seconds at 112.2 mph) runs were just a tenth behind the C63's (3.8, 12.2 at 117.4, respectively). You'll spend $91,000 for the 507 and $78,000 for the R5. They both weigh in before the fight at around 4,000 pounds--4027 for the R5 and 3952 for the Benz.

I can appreciate the 3-4 people in here cross-shopping but that is not what the internal data shows, for Lexus. People want what they want at this price. There is no denying the fact that BMW and the "M" brand are extremely well established and the easy sale here. The RC F still has a very new foundation. If many here note IS F owners, I would say the majority were previous Lexus/Toyota owners, many were and still own Supras. You had some cross-shopping and later on a few and very small amount of conquest sales.

FYI the next C63 is keeping its V-8....

The engine is pretty much two A45 2.0L turbo 4s put together.
