Cost cutting? Wasn't the 2IS the last to cover everything up?
and the 3IS got rid of a lot of those covers, they were incredibly annoying to have to take everything apart and breaking clips all the time. Thank god they did.
I like the exterior styling, but the dash and center console just don't do it for me. 2nd gen IS interior > 3rd gen. and I hope the alcantara center console lid doesn't make it into production. that material wont last too long for sure..
Alcantara wears extremely well as along as you don't totally abuse it.
We've had an IS with alcantara seats in the family for 9 years now, and it looks in better shape than the leather in an RX half its age.
