Tinting taillights
#3
I have not done the tinting by film but I would probably go the actually tinting method of sanding and then VHT Niteshade + gloss coat. I don't blame the shop though. the RC tail lights are crazy especially the 2 "horns" they have on the sides.

I just used sticky tint on the white parts of my lights. I cut a paper template of the shape, then cut it out from the tint roll and stuck them on dry. Little at a time to make sure no bubbles appeared. then trimmed the edges. Then a light hit with a heat gun ensures a really solid stick.
I personally would much rather use this method over the sanding and spraying method. I like having the option to revert if I wanted to.

The 4GS taillights have some fairly difficult and intricate edges like the RC, and it was possible for this professional to tint them using vinyl wrap.

Just keep searching...there has to be someone else out there that can do it too. If not, maybe consider taking the taillights off and shipping them to SoCal to get them wrapped by Don.

Why go through all the trouble to "tint" or to "black out" the tail lights? If you don't want the driver behind you to know when you have applied the brakes, why not just unscrew the bulb?

I agree...i think the red looks good as it is. Everyone has their own opinion tho. I would probably choose the vinyl over any spray being applied too.
