Default Radar detector feedback - need to buy one!!!

I've always use passport, with excellent results. My last one is dead and I need to buy a new one. Looking at the Escort SOLO because of the benefit of now cables hanging around. Please advise.

I Have an Escort 9500iX (with built in GPS) Its one of my favorite Radar Detectors and I rarely get false alerts. I also installed it using a mirror mount. clean & simple install.

I've always had V One. I have three units in my cars and updated every few years. About 3 months ago, I found out Escort Max 360's bugs are resolved as much as possible. Plus the V One's arrow directional dual antennas patent expired. So Escort can do it too now.

The Escort Max 360 is the one for me now. Way less false alarms and has a built in GPS and it learns over time. The V ONE false alarms with BMS, radar cruise systems from Audi and GM vehicles and others are just too annoying for me.

Everyone is going to have their favorite, for me it's Valentine One. I have had a V1 since the mid 1990's and over the years have had it updated with the most recent software when available. The "junk filter"/ K-Band update several years back made it more quiet.

Almost a year ago I picked up the V1 connection / bluetooth module that allows me to view several variations of the V1's display on my phone, and set custom profiles. I like the fact that with a quick glance of my phone I can tell the band it is picking up and how serious the alert is.

Over the past several years I have been running the Waze app along with the V1 which has saved me a few times. I really love Waze..

Thanks Sean! Did you had to cut some wires from the mirror to get the power connection??? How the power connection goes from the mirror to the radar????

I used the Savvy device that Valentine makes to supply power to the V1. This is a small box that plugs into the computer port down under the left side of the dash. The V1 power cord (standard 4 conductor phone cord) runs from the device to the V1. I just pushed it into the trim around the windshield, and the whole power installation procedure took about five minutes. The device also reads the vehicle speed from the computer port, and has a dial that you can set a speed on. Below that speed, the V1 sounds only at the mute level you have set on the V1, and above that speed the alerts sound at full volume level. This eliminates the problem with signals you encounter when driving in the city at usual and customary speeds.
With a new car, I often spend hours finding a suitable switched power line in a convenient location, and sometimes have to settle for an inconvenient location, requiring a long run to the console or to a plug in a storage area.
Those who have installed car cameras on their windshields have surely found a good wire for switched power in the mirror or overhead light area, and that would be good information to have posted here. (It may be - I have not searched for it.)

For my 9500ix I just tapped into my Tundra's rear view mirror (since it was a home link mirror anyway) with the a simple barb tap, it worked great and there was no need to run the wires anywhere else BUT that doesn't give speed or anything.

I've never been one to hate on either the V1 or Escort detectors, I know there are fan boys but both have saved my rear a few times.

There are several wires up in the mirror area, depending on the car. The RC has the Homelink buttons there, for example, but I do not believe that the Homelink power is switched (meaning it gets no power when the ignition is off, since I can use it before starting the car - although today's computers can be set to turn Homelink on when you open the car door, as I think my car does for the seat memory buttons, which get power only under certain door/ignition/transmission configurations).
Hooking up a radar detector or camera to such an always-on power source means that you must remember to turn the device off every time you stop the car, and that is no way to go through life, unless maybe you have one of those little jumper batteries in your glove compartment.

It is switched, that's what I used on the Tundra. (At least it's switched on the Tundra)

Yes, I always HAD USED V 1 since it's inception way way back. But it's hardware had not really changed or improved much over 20+++ years. It is still hanging on to its old glory days where no one else can have the dual front and back coverage due to its patents. Now it's patents had expired, I believe others already had and will continue to develop innovations to improve the detector industry.

Yes, you can have all the add on you described. But with the new Escort MAX 360 it is an ALL IN ONE UNIT with GPS built in and you can bluetooth to your phone as well. Even without bluetooth to your phone, it already got lots of features built in. It can tell you how fast you are going and if you want you can set a maximum speed and if you go over it will alert you to "OVER SPEED". ALSO in areas where it's built in GPS knows what the speed limit is, it will display the speed limit. With its GPS, it will learn over time if it is a false alarm. When i first got it I drove by the same place daily, then one day at that same place the unit decided to STORE that false alarm location with its frequency by displaying "STORED" and a beep. So the next time I go by and it detects the same location with the same exact signature frequency, it will not beep. It has various filters you can set if you want to. Also if you are so technical and wanted to know exactly what frequency it is picking up, you can set it to display that too. For me, I just want to know if it beeps, I will need to really PAY ATTENTION! !! Also it's red light camera and KNOWN SPEED TRAP alerts are simply PRICELESS! !!

One more thing......I just don't want all that info displayed on my phone while driving. Already got WAZE running and Pandora streaming, and whatever else incoming. Then there is the NAVI screen and the cluster of displays right in front of the steering wheel. It is way too much going on. I just want to concentrate driving and if my ESCORT MAX 360 BEEPS, I take immediate notice!

Overall, i think the Escort Max 360 has a self contained package. Yes, maybe the V1 can get to this level (to have GPS capability and etc. ), but you need to have additional units either hard wired or via bluetooth to the V1. By the time you do all that with the V1, you will have already exceeded the Escort Max 360 price point especially with the 10% off discount AND YOU STILL HAVE A V1 THAT HAS INSIDE HARDWARE THAT IS ESSENTIALLY 20+++ YEARS OLD TECHNOLOGY. I wonder if Mr. Valentine had filed for any new patents since the original V1??? Anybody know?

What is the best detector is a constant discussion over on some of the radar detector forums, i.e., radardetector.net, etc. I personally use the V1 but many of the Escorts are probably just at good as detecting radar.
I looked at the Passport and may get one for the GPS capability but the only thing holding me back is the "stealthiness" of the unit.
I have my main V1 unit mounted up high on the windshield for better radar reception but the unit stays blacked out due to the V1 concealed display that I mounted on my steering column. No one sees the unit light up except me which is just how I like it. No tailgaters, no police, etc. When Escort finally comes out with a remote unit that gives me arrows, bands, etc. as the head unit and lets the head unit stay dark, I'll probably try one out.
