Default Nitrogen in Tires

Hi all!

Do any of you have / put nitrogen in your tires?

My last car I deflated each tire and filled each of them with N2 used for aircraft tires (as a courtesy). I remember not having to fill up air for the first two years!

I don't think my RC came with N2. Would it be a good idea to switch? Thanks!

I have nitrogen in mine and have put in air on two different occasions in the 4 1/2 mos. I've had the car, related to minor temperature changes. Also had in a few other cars. Frankly I've noticed absolutely no difference, and some have paid a fair amount for this; think it's a scam. Remember air is 80% nitrogen. Save your time and money.

Unless it's free, don't do it. Not worth it since you'll have to add nitrogen again at some point. Also, many tire places will check your pressures and add air free of charge, so it takes the inconvenience of checking and adding air once a month.

Who needs to add air once a month?

Air tends to leach out of the tire over time as the molecules are smaller and are more affected by temperature, hence the change to Nitrogen. The molecules in nitrogen are much larger and don't pass through the tire easily, and nitrogen doesn't get affected by temperature as much as air.

I figure you might be saying what type of tire do you have if air is escaping. All tires are porous to a point, and the reason you're supposed to check the air in them at least once per month at the minimum.

Okay if that's the principle involved, but in my experience it hasn't made one iota of difference. Charging more than a nominal fee for it, I still find to be a scam.

My tires I just had installed have nitrogen, I see no difference. Pressure fluctuates with temp just as much as before.

Remember that air is 78% nitrogen already.

I agree with you, but that is the principle that Dealers use to get you switch or accept the extra charge. My car was filled from the dealer with Nitrogen, not charged, and within the first 2 months I noticed that the pressure went down by 6 psi.

I won't pay for it, and once told a dealer to take out the nitrogen, and put in air as I wasn't going to pay $100 for nitrogen. They let me have it for free, but that is the only way I will have it in my tires. Costco also only uses Nitrogen, but they don't charge you for it.
