I just read the article about the RC's engine being something innovating but dont see info about the MPG on the RC and RC F. Im guessing they are going to use the old engine from the 2013-2014 IS and IS F,

If that is the case, how is that article valid? Isnt just marketing BS?

its a completely redesigned ISF engine thats making 460 hp vs 416. It can also reduce its effective displacement to 4.2 liters using atkinson cycle like the prius to reduce fuel consumption

what about the RC? I find it so silly that they are already releasing pre-orders and sell sheets with no info on MPG whatsoever.

You should be able to get a reasonable estimate from the weight, HP and size of the engine, but if MPG is a deal-breaker, you are looking at the wrong car. (As for the silliness, my guess is that the overly complex and overly regulated tests have not been completed yet.)

MPG has been on a big highlight for Lexus in general. If you compare their cars to their competitors, they are on the low spectrum of the market when it comes to performance and MPG. If you visit the 250/350 3IS forum, you can gauge how disappointed some are with the MPG even when they love their car.

why would it be any different than the 3IS? Similar size, exact same engine and transmission. I get 21 mpg in open city driving, not stop and go but little freeway driving.

21 MPG is about what I would expect on the new IS. It has an EPA rating of 19/28. I really hope the RC finds a way to do much better. Gas (regular) in my neighborhood here in the SF Bay Area was $4.20 today. Mileage is a big concern of mine and I hope Lexus brings the RC300h to California. I gave my mint SC300 to my son last year and miss owning a coupe.

Many people don't care about MPG. It will be what it will be, and it's a minor part of the cost of ownership.

I agree some are affluent enough to not care about the cost of fuel but I wouldn't say it's a minor part of the cost of ownership. If someone drives 2000 miles a month and averages 22mpg they are paying around $365 per month in gas at four bucks-ish a gallon. That's an entire car payment for some people.

If that is really a concern there are much more fuel efficient cars than the RC. Everything has to be taken into consideration... not only the cost of buying the car but of owning it. I definitely care about the cost of fuel, and if it reaches $5 per gallon by the end of the summer as some are predicting, it will take more out of my paycheck. However, I'm still going to hold onto my GS and not trade it in for a Prius.

I only drive my SC430 a few thousand miles a year, so the cost of fuel is a minor consideration for me. Against that I consider power, conveniences, style, comfort (I'm really into comfort) and how conspicuously I'm getting my consuming done.
Those who drive 2,000 or even 4,000 miles a month will produce a different result from mine to the formula, but there is a reason you see a lot of Prius cars in town and very few on the highways. If the total cost of ownership gets outside of your transportation budget, make some adjustments to the component items.
