Exclamation Carbon build up advice Lexus IS250

Hello Everyone,

I am owner of a 2006 Lexus Is250 with 160,000 Kms on It. I recently started having Car Hesitation , Low gas Mileage , High RPM with Slow Response when accelerating and feels like my car is "Chocked" On 1st and 2 gear. My Mechanic had a look at the car for few hours and diagnosed it with Carbon build up (50 % carbon build up). He said once the build up is quite large I will start receiving Code Errors something like P0340 and possibly having misfire .

I am looking to perform carbon build up clean up and looking for some advice. I called up few places who offered Walnut blasting services and they have advised me to get this service done after I get my Pistons cleaned which walnut blasting procedure up does not cover.

I Called Lexus and they offered to do Top Engine Clean Up Service which is basically soaking the engine with some chemicals and manually cleaning the pistons with a brush . Service Cost around $1000 Tax Included (6.5 hours Work and Some ring parts) 50% success rate with Heavy carbon build up .

I Would like to fully clean up my car from carbon deposits to avoid future problems ( In a non cheap SeaFoam way, Already tried 2 services that costed $160 from a mechanic which basically included blasting cleaning material through the Intake valve ) as I am looking to drive my car to the ground (until the engine dies) and I was told that once carbon build up is way too much . There is no actual fix even with Top Engine Clean up and will require engine replacement.

Is there any trusted Mechanic in Ontario around the GTA area (Toronto) where I can drop off my car for the weekend and have it fully serviced for carbon clean up? looking to spend around $1500 and have a peace of mind that I could possibly drive my car to 300,000 kms or more.

I just bought this gas and oil additive called Sea Foam and I put it in my gas tank and oil and it literally fixed my idle issue and my cars random stall issue (automatic trans). I would give it a try... it was $8 at AutoZone and it's on Amazon as well.

Try splashing ethanol to make this thing run E20. That should help a little bit. There's an additive I love called Maddative by VP Racing

https://vpracingfuels.com/product/power-boost/

Use that every 5K miles for a while. Suggest getting a scanner so you can check your own parameters. Also, running a better oil and filter will greatly help, as will using quality fuel.

I live in canada.. For a walnut blast with new lower intake manifold gaskets, upper intake plenum orings, and throttle body seal, with a synthetic Motul oil change with filter you are looking at $675.00 all in. The difference it makes to your car is dependable on how much your carbon build up you have. I had 150 000 km. I always ran full synthetic and highest grade gas when i fill up. In some is250s the carbon build up is real bad. Symptoms like car shake on idle. Hesitations to accelerate from a full stop . Car misfire and engine lights in sever cases. If you have those severe symptoms and ur car is 9 year old lexus has a recall to fix it which is the equivalent of walnut blast. In my case. Car shake disappeared when idle or at a stop. Car hesitation was eliminated and i dont smell any bad gas chocke like (fart) when i accelerate. My main concern was to have the car run smoother and not have to replace an entire engine block if the carbon build up is bad and beyond fix. I recommended this service to be done every 80 000 km

Hi memoalkati
Hope this cleanup still hold perfectly after over a year since you have done it. Can you let me know where you had this procedure done ? I live near montreal and my IS250AWD is a 2009 with only 67,000 Km. I try to keep my cars for 15 years. I am willing to go to Toronto to have this procedure done So far I have not had any problems with the carbon issue..
Did you look at the Valvoline easyGDI (150$) treatment before choosing the walnut treatment ?
Thanks a lot
Luc

Did the same thing. 2 bottles of SeaForm for less than $20 saved more than $2500 for a Tranny bill.

I've experienced the shuddering between 20mph and 40mph, and sometimes at 50 mph; have had it for several months now, and just recently; it started to get progressively worse. I had the VSC and traction light on for several months as well. I've had the problem for approx. 25,000 miles, and I'm at 208,500 now. My main maintenance/repair shop, and a few other shops all showed me the P2757 code. Some showed the P2714 and P0751 codes too. I took it to a Tranny shop, and the owner quoted $2800 to rebuild it. I waited about a week, and decided to pour SeaFoam in (at the advice of a couple of auto parts store employees at different locations) on a full tank of fuel, and a full bottle during an oil change. SeaFoam directions state 1 oz. per quart of oil. I made the mistake of pouring the whole bottle in the crankcase. But with much smiling and happiness; my warning lights, shuddering, and engine startup screech are gone.

Adrusel
Great results with Seafoam.
In my case I had in winter time at startup an idle around 1500 rpm that was moving from 1400-1600 rpm. I added a can of seafoan in my gas tank and I ran the car hard such as once a week driving in manual mode at different rpms starting from 4000 followed by 4500 followed by 5000 and 5500 rpm for as long as a minute for each speed I usually give a minute at 2500 rpm between each rpm in the sequence to cool off the oil & engine.. If there was carbon on the intake valve I think its gone now. Every 10 tanks of gas I pour a can of seafoam. .What I notice is the oil becomes darker using seafoam, but no oil consumption.and the oil is changed every 5000 miles (8K KM) with castrol synthetic GTX 0-20 winter and 5-30 in spring time. The actual mileage is 45312 miles (72500 KM)

My left cat went bad as well and I got it replaced at the dealership for ~$1200. I really didn't want to deal with the hassle of replacing it myself and having other issues. Things break, it happens.
