Default Anyone Buy New Tanabe Medalion Axle Back Exhaust??

They just released this a week or two ago and have sold some. Has anyone here bought one yet? Just waiting to hear sound clips on this. There are some for 2nd gen IS but since the 3rd gen is true dual exhaust it will sound diff.

There are lots of sound clips on you tube but they are for IS250 or they are IS350 with mid pipes. I was told this Tanabe has a deeper tone instead of raspy. But not sure how much diff it will sound than stock.

Hey DDVette9, thats cool that you have this. Is yours the IS350?
It would be great if you could share some sound files on this.

Is it noticealbe sound difference over stock?
All the 2nd gen IS that have this mainly pair it with a mid pipe so the sound is very diff.

What was your price on this and where?

I have a 250 and I have F sport intake but everything else is stock. I paid 750 including shipping. It is maybe 20% louder than stock but a lot deeper and more bassy.

Ddvette9 - Thanks for the feedback!

I just placed an order for the Tanabe exhaust and hope to have here by the weekend to install.
Still have not heard anyone post sound clips so I hope it will be nice.

I have tried GReddy and HKS on my other IS before so thought to give Tanabe a try this time.

Just installed the axle back. Was not as easy to do on my own due to lack of ramps and right tools. So i paid $90 install which took about 30 mins.

Sound is more of a rumble vs high pitched sound of stock.
Looks nice and fit is perfect.

I have the VR Tuned ECU flash and after the exhaust i noticed performance seemed to decrease as their is less back pressure but the computer is not mapped for this setting.

Rather than wait for the ECU to sense this and adjust itself, I just reflashed my ECU back to stock, then reinstalled ECU flash.

So need to drive 100-200 miles again before the increased performance will be felt again.
Overall, happy with the looks and the sound should get a deeper & louder after break in.

Am waiting to see if anyone else will make a mid pipe other than Invidia.
May get that also for even better sound and more performance.

I don't think the reflash will make a difference. I think it has something to do with the 8-speed that it feels sluggish at low RPM's. Feels the same way with my Magnaflow. Ive been going back and forth on whether to go back to stock.....

The ECU flash improved the shifting to where it no longer felt sluggish especially in normal mode.

I Just reverted back to stock settings, then reflashed it again after exhaust so changes can be made for improved airflow / reduced back pressure
.
Not sure if it is our imagination that power seems less after exhaust install as many the manufacturers claim slight increase in power & torque?

With the intake before exhaust, the WOT sound was more noticeable.
Now with exhaust, the intake seems to be more quiet as it is less restrictive.

The tanabe sounds terrible on sound clips. Sounds exactly like stock. Only way to understand it is to ride inside the car when under load.

I drove about 25 miles today in various modes and speeds.
Resetting the ECU by reflashing VR Tuned plug in did the trick.
You will need to disconnect the battery to clear the computer also.

It responds much better now as there was too much difference with less back pressure from new exhaust and computer was not reset to adj for this.

The sound on start up is very quiet like stock.
As said before, the sound under load it quite diff.

Will take couple hundred miles to burn in also, so would expect a diff sound then as well.
I tried to record sound file with phone but it was not very good.

If sounds deeper later, i will record and post.
Unless dvette will do this as he has more miles than me.
