Exhaust Backfire
#16
hey, i have been driving on the ARK cat-back for last 4 month and i love it. i dont hear lots of back fire when going through the gears but when down shifting on high rpm it makes an amazing sound with some pops.

Thanks for all the help guys! I would love to see that video! And from what I'm hearing from everyone, it looks like ARK is the best option for what I want. Hopefully, I'll find a good deal on it and pull the trigger. In the meantime, I'm sure my custom axelback will bring me at least 250-300.

its just backfire. Depending on the setup (different engine/car) it can happen when letting off the acceleration or on engine braking (our IS350's). I have the Ark one and it happens on engine braking from 5th to 4th(lighter) and from 3rd to 2nd gear(stronger). Those two downshifts will give you the richest burns and those richer fumes "explode" in the exhaust when it finds the air it needs. now that i think of it, because of the helmholtz design of the Ark GRIP exhaust, it might have a higher chance of backfire happening vs other catbacks.
It...is...beautiful. lol. it also depends on driving conditions for me. it needs enough engine brake (aggressive down shifts = Higher RPM movement) to get it to run rich enough to get the fumes to hear the pop. so...if you dont want to hear it, take a longer time to downshift from 3rd to 2nd....brake slower than normal. but if you're like me and have a compact braking pattern than you'll hear the pop more often than not. Some higher end stock cars come with this "option". my passengers love it.
Enjoy! you can hear me popping all over streets of willow this weekend!

Hey guys,
Im in the same boat, i wanted some backfire sounds but i didn't know the way to go, it seems like ark its the way to go, however i wanted to ask if it only happens with cat back or with an axleback should be enough?
Do you guys get any annoying noise when cruising in the expressway?
Thanks a lot

I think the Apexi catback exhaust is the best sounding and better looking exhaust system for the 3IS. Of course I'm just being bias just like you😋

Before you do something stupid like removing your cats, consider these facts: your car will be illegal to drive, especially in CA..., and the worst part is it'll smell like a bus all the time, even when just cruising. You'll wish you never took them off, and you'll be driving with your windows up all the time. Done it on my 350z, hated driving the car sometimes because of that. No amount of backfire is worth the smell and the paranoia of being fined. I heard that the Ark exhaust gives you some backfire sounds and overall sounds amazing, so consider that.
my old Accord was modify w/4" Intake CAI, dual Borlas (V6), Borla S-Type Midpipe, Tsudo J-Pipe, and RV6 Pre-Cat deletes
what i hated was when i upgraded to 3.7 Acura RL/MDX Camshafts...i could even smell it sometimes even with the windows up and during winter, i always cracked the window a bit
the power was awesome but one of the main reasons for selling it was the CEL that wouldn't go away without a tune and taking off the Power mods would be costly, and lastly...unless you got a "friend" or some connection esp. in CA, Emissions testing time is gonna suck
here in CO, in denver, its every 2 years so let's say i wanted to uninstall and reinstall my exhaust system, PCDs, and then reinstall, it could be more than $500-1,000 easily
in CA, when i lived there about 6 yrs. back, Emissions testing is super strict and even with modder friendly shops and friendly Emission testing shops...i would always be worried because any Cop will recognize excessive exhaust odors/noise
