Is350 in the 1/4 12's Roll Call
#47
lets keep this going
love to see more times. i just picked up a low mileage 2007 is350. literally cannot believe how much of a dig monster this car is. very surprised. honestly
with light weight 17's and slicks, headers, true dual exhaust, intake. 250 lbs weight reduction with light driver.
should see 12.6 1/4 if cayman was doing 12.8 without headers or full exhaust just major weight reduction
with light weight 17's and slicks, headers, true dual exhaust, intake. 250 lbs weight reduction with light driver.
should see 12.6 1/4 if cayman was doing 12.8 without headers or full exhaust just major weight reduction

honestly its a shame in some ways the is-f had to come out and steal all the is350's thunder LMAO.
you see more track use out of is350's in 2006/ 2007 on these forums then 2008 comes... not so much-- as the is-f has beckoned
case and point user CAYMANDIVE has the youtube vids of his is350 running a 12.84 1/4 on a great track/ track day. he had quite SOME weight reduction like removal of seat keeping just driver and rear.
his mods to get 12.84.
''intake
Exhaust
Custom mid-pipe
smaller diameter rear tires
1/8 tank of gas
spare tire removed
Jack and tools removed
floor mats removed
passenger seat removed
And a DA well below 1,000 feet sea level (makes a HUGE difference.)''
But it was a new car back then and i understand him not wanting to gut the interior-removal of A/C or strip out doors.
cayman didn't have ppe headers (The single best hp mod for the is350) as they weren't around. He had exhaust. stock rims on smaller diamter performance rear tires AND probably 150 lbs weight removal (he states he weighs 230lbs? or did then) and a intake
which he ran a fast 12.84 1/4 ( fast for a n/a v6 lexus sedan)
a quick search shows user RORO got the is350 down to 32xxlbs without even trying. no glass removal for plexi. no a/c removal. just gutting trunk and interior removal. he quit after failed supercharger attempt left him with a slower time than N/A and moved on to bmw 335
i just picked up a low mileage 2007 is350 for cheap. ima see what i can do with this platform
serious weight reduction and the fact i'm a 129lb asian man (lol) should see some 1/4 times in 12's.
just need to save up for some ppe headers/joez exhaust/ intake
its a Fluckyng shame the is350 ecu is what it is though. but headers/exhaust/intake will run fine with oem.
any idea what best rims options are? it seems like some street or track dedicated light 17's on
slicks yield best results. but most guys use oem 18's for cost/ tire options.
heres what i believe to be a mildly modded is350 0 60 4.5 seconds

regarding weight reduction- and - is350 vs e46 m3
if you keep transmission out of power mode i.e, just normal drive. stay away from paddle shifters(hate those useless things). completely turn off traction, meaning pedal dance 2006, or hold button for 5 seconds. then brake TQ to 1800-2000 Rpm. with your current listed mods you'll see 13.0 to 13.4 easy depending on your weight and tires/rims--- and most important what 60ft you can erk out. the is350 is a dig monster. to put into perspective a good comparison is the N/A inline 6 e46 m3. the 2006-2013 is350 with traction off is faster ''''''up to'''' 50 mph every step of the way than the e46 m3. by 50 mph they are both at 3.8 seconds
by 60 mph the e46 m3 is faster. typically e46 m3 6mt is 0 to 60 in 4.8. a correctly driven is350 should see 4.9.
what this means is the is350 needs good 60ft times to get to low 13's and high 12's. so tires and traction are pivotal along with brake TQ to 1800-2000 Rpm
the 2006-2013 is350 is heavily under rated. most people flucyk it off because the direct injection and ecu make forced ind. and cams a moot point or a big pita that costs $$$$$$$.
but considering the price drop on 2006-2008 is350. with just headers exhaust intake weight reduction you can have a rwd 12 second car thats toyota RELIABLE and daily driver for under 15000$(including car) or cheaper that requires minimal maintenance. this is not a bad thing
and all honesty a severly gutted (im talking ricer ---evo or civic gutted--- for example a magazine got a is-f down to 30XXlbs and the is350 weighs less obviously than a is-f) 2006-2013 is350 with the correct tire/rim combo. with a good suspension. with ppe headers, joez exhaust, intake...... this is350 would run 12.5 or under with a 1.8 60ft on a good track (no not down hill) .
Im confident you can get the is350 30XX pounds if you fully gut interior and trunk, get a single cheap used light weight kirkey racing seat installed, remove all sound insulation and door panels and use dry ice for the tar, gut dash get rid of the problematic NAV in dash, (air bags?would be a track only car then), stereo, air condition (keep heating/ventilation vents for visibility), remove head liner. and plexi the rear (keep front passenger, front driver, and front windshield oem for safety reasons). find a used carbon hood or shave metal off oem with cut outs. light weight battery.
light weight 17's. keep oem brakes/shocks. Get better brake pads and f sport springs.
this with ppe headers/joez exhaust/ and intake would be a 12.5 1/4 maybe lower depending on if you want to keep it ''legal'' by keeping the air bags. If you decide to remove air bags front and rear bumpers can have stuff removed as well. this is also illegal and should be done to dedicated track s-l-u-t-z ---- then again the moment you install the catless ppe headers and joez race exhaust ''legal'' is no longer the case.
is350 has potential with serious weight reduction. now that its 2015 and the is350 has dropped $$$. might see more dedicated track s-l-u-t-z. a reliable 12 second sleeper is no bad thing.
here are some attached thumb nails of 0-100mph. its funny though in the real world you see lightly modded 6mt m3's run 13.6 more often than not though they have the ability to run better for sure. The is350 hits 13.7 stock with inexperienced drivers with traction off all the time. i blame it on the fact that automatics are better in 1/4.
im not per say bashing e46 m3's though they're 'great' if you can afford maintenance. still i can't shake the video i attached of a modded sedan 2009 cobalt ss that hung with and nearly out handled a v8 m3.
to be fair it would slaughter a is350 in this situation as well. i just don't think stock e46 m3's or v8 m3 handle as well as people say in general. and as stated the is350 can hang with stock m3 e46 in the 1/4 even though is350 weigh 35XX lbs.
yet the is350 has always been severely over looked and considered much more inferior to the e46 m3. i cannot tell you how many bmw forums there are bashing the is350. when in reality the e46 m3 and is350 are much closer in performance than you would think.
For example
full bolt on and suspension modded is350 vs full bolt on and suspension modded e46 m3 are closer than people tend to believe. ALOT closer. The standard 2006-2013 is350 handling leaves alot to be desired. And the stock e46 m3 can handle pretty good, but handles worse than the v8 m3 that replaces. Start modding suspension on each car and the is350 catches up quick to the e46 m3. Bolt on your i/h/e their evenly matched almost. e46 m3 has tuneable ecu, and viable cam/turbo options.
is350 meh..not so much.
the e46 m3 has TERRIBLE Reliability. But the option to turbo-and cam.
the is350 has TERRIBLE aftermarkert as far as turbo-and cam. But phenomenal reliability.
So if a stock e46 m3 handles worse than a v8 m3 how well does a v8 m3 handle?
heres a cheap fwd cobalt ss hanging with v8 m3's
in the grand scheme of things neither the is350, nor the e46 m3 or v8 m3 are world class handlers. Though m3 owners are quick to point out they out handle is350 all day..... while a fwd cobalt hangs with them
you can Easily mod is350 to out handle a stock m3 now days. Though i wouldn't wanna automatic road racer to begin with. a is-f is a different story
here are the 0-100mph though in the real world we see bolt on e46 1/4 13.4 to 13.6 easily and bolt on is350 13.4 to13.7 easily keep in mind the is350 is a 35XX lbs automatic 306 hp sedan. And the e46 6mt m3 is a ''sports car''
1.)is350
2.) e46 m3

heres road track test 2007 is350 0-60 4.9 13.5 1/4
http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars...-lexus-is-350/
all this should inspire more people to get their is350 in the 12's. its a quick car out the gate. its a shame the is350 is so over looked and shyyt on by the bmw community.
it's far more reliable. puts up N/A bolt on e46 m3 1/4 numbers. has the potential to out handle alot of cars in the real word daily driving.
i think the fact you can't reflash the ecu leaving crazy reground cams and or turbo set ups out of reach for alot of people as your forced to go stand alone- kills the is350's performance market.
However i'll say it again. A ppe header/ joez exhaust/ intake/ some weight reduction cheap 2006-2008 is350 is a fairly -good gas mileage- RELIABLE- high 12's car. The fact that you can drive it to the track and back and even daily drive (depending on weight reduction liveability) is just a plus.
I've messed with alot of cars in my life time and had some fast fox bodies in 12's easily. I always gravitate back to toyota reliability.
**********Honestly i haven't heard or seen of a is350 with catless ppe headers, with joez race exhaust, with joez intake/fsport to f sport drop in, that also has medium to serious weight reduction with whatever is best rim option, matched to slicks- drag radials.
***this combination hasn't been ran at a 1/4 yet and would see 12.5 1/4 or under depending on driver- driver weight and car weight, humidity, track.
granted 12.5 may sound low as it has not been done.
then again a full effort at N/A tracking a is350 hasn't been attempted as no one wants to
A)spend 1600$ on joez race exhaust. 800-900$ on catless ppe headers. 1500$+ on rims tires. 300$ intake. 300$ on f sport springs. 200$-600$ brake pads.
then take a
B) nice comfortable is350 and completely gut it out making it (most likely) illegal to drive on streets
if turbo's were a option or ecu could be reflashed weight reduction wouldn't be so important if at all.
to truly get more is350's in under 12.8. literally have to drop 6000$ grand then ruin your car.
waaaaaaaay back in 2007 CAYMANDIVE ran 12.84 1/4. His car did not have MAJOR weight reduction, it had SEMI-MODERATE. NO HEADERS. 230 pound driver. smaller diameter rear tires oem rims.perfect track conditions a DA well below 1,000 feet sea level and ran 12.8 1/4 mile...... the is350 hasn't seen its full potential, not even close.
i'll see what i can do as i have a daily driver and am on the fence about how deep i want to go into MAJOR weight reduction.
one final note about stock is350 acceleration vs stock e46 m3... in the real world your stock 2006-2013 is350 hangs with stock 6mt e46 m3's
the proof is in the pudding as it were
heres a respected senoir member on bimmerforums stating the overall average 1/4 for the e46 m3 which is 13.6. Very close in performance to the is350's average of 13.7 even though the m3 has ''30 more hp'' and weighs less than is350.

i think cayman dive had 5mph backwind, no real slicks, maybe 150 pounds weight reduction while also weighing 230 pounds. no headers. granted good azzz da. and ran 12.8
i think i have a pretty good chance. it all depends on weight reduction.
a 32xxlb is350[WITH DRIVER] with full bolt ons and slicks would easily run 12.5 or under with a 1.7-1.8 60ft.
track would need to be cool under 75. but certainly wouldnt need 50mph back wind. thats literally silly.
but no ones willing to ruin the is350 for weight savings.
i just got the is350 but i'll see what i can do. before i start gutting the car out i need 5000 worth of parts min. lmao
also keep in mind running actual slicks can take up off a 1/4 time.
and i understand why we haven't see many if any is350's on slicks. most is350's are used a grocery getters. they don't scream 'take me to the track'.
and we still haven't even seen a '''''''full bolt on'''''''' is350 with '''''''slicks'''''' with '''''''pretty drastic weight reduction''''''' run the 1/4---in fact we havent even seen one with two of those things. the closest thing was caymandives 12.84. he didn't run slicks or headers. he also had only semi moderate weight removal compared to what can be done now these cars are 9 years old and way cheaper [meaning more likely to gut compared to a new car]
don't knock the is350 they don't need 50mph backwinds to run 12.5 or under. you just need to turn them into a honda civic and strip it like a track s-l-u-t lmao

thanks for the positive feed back. been messing with fox body mustangs for awhile. got this is350 cheap. considering it has 4.10 [4.08]gears, 6 speed auto. over 300hp. weighs little over 3500lbs. good quick lil sleeper.

Most people that don't own lexus do not know that IS350 can hit low 13 sec stock and 4.9 sec 0-60 mph. Weigh deduction mid 12 is possible I think. Good luck and keep us update.
