Default muffler vs exhaust (axle-back)

Hey evetybody! So ive recently come to the conclusion that my 06 IS350 is too quiet for my liking. So as of late ive been pondering the idea of buying an M2 exhaust for the vehicle but im on a small budget and i was wandering if any of you folks on the forum have swapped a muffler into these cars before?

Ive seen many people with mustangs , trucks, miatas etc... Do a muffler swap and the sound improved dramatically. So since the muffler is more cost effective , i just wanted to ask before i make a purchase if the muffler will work just as well as it does on other cars?

I was set on a exhaust but since the gains are very very minimal at best i figured this is the best way to get the result I'm looking for. Thanks again everyone.

P.s. Please keep your "its so ricer" comments out of this thread. Real advice only please, thank you

The M2 will be a nice subtle exhaust sound. It'll open up when you step on it and the price is right.

I've never even see people calling other cars rice in this forum. Everyone is super chill usually.

But back to the topic, the thread lysis250 showed ya is pretty good. You can alway do a straight pipe or muffler delete with aftermarket resonators for a cheaper price than buying an exhaust. That's if you're trying to make your car hella loud. Loc did it on his.

I got this off his build thread:

I had the m2 exhaust. Maybe it was just me but it was just horrible drone from 1500 - 3k. Then the intake takes over the exhaust sound. I sold it in a week. Couldn't hold a conversation with the m2 exhuast.

Thanks for your input guys. So ive made up my mind about buying mufflers only instead- so now im wondering what would you guys recommend for a louder exhaust note? It doesnt have to be screaming loud but i do want it to be easily noticable that i have changed the sound of my car . thanks!

I have heard the magnaflows are relatively quiet though.. On a scale of 1-10 (1 being your cars stock sound) how would you rate it?

Also are there any other compatible mufflers that can really change sound up more? Thanks

I would wait for a used f sport exhaust I waited about half a year and I found one for 450. There's no drone at all and on the outside when I step on the gas I see people turning their heads to see what car is coming down the street.
