Well it seems like it could be done with a bit of trial fitting. Id at least like to rid myself of the crinkle zone after the MAF. The Helmholtz resonator honestly doesnt bother me because I know its not any kind of restriction.

I have an innovative idea, how about keeping the stock intake and just widening / stretching the front opening (behind the grill) with a heat gun. The idea is to grab more front end cold air.
What do you think??

It would be hard with out doing a ground up redesign because of how the stock one is made. It has a divider vane to guide the air.

If I had the tools it would be fun to test the CFM of each little part of the engine all the way to the heads. Just to find any choke points. That way I wouldnt waste time upgrading parts that already surpass the needed air demand.

Just looking at the design it looks fairly efficient. It makes 300hp from 4.0L so its not exactly too choked up. But that section from the air box/MAF to the throttle body could be smoother. It may only lead to a stronger mid-range and 1 hp more peak but it would be a gain non the less.

I like this if only he had kept the stock air box or put in a heat barrier with a hole to let the fresh snorkel air in better. His snorkel isnt doing much because its not really a ram air in stock form. It mostly helps pull in fresh air in front of the radiator while its all sealed up in the stock intake form. I get that to remove it leaves it a bit ugly but tests have shown slight power losses with that style air filter. As I mentioned the stock box is good enough to get a 4.0L to make 300hp so it cant be too restrictive.
