God I swea if I see an affordable IS-F LSD rear end I will be the first to try using the 350 ring and pinion gear on it.

RPM and mileage impact depends on your original final drive and each gear ratio (manual/ auto/ non USA market) & tire wheel package diameter, if you have the 255/40-18 rear wheels your diameter is about 26” so you can calculate the speed and RPM.

Yes, there are other aftermarket LSD options, but usually they just sell the actual LSD and you will have to install it in a case, also they are a lot more money.
thanks An2ny for your calculations, 2.5mpg lost seems huge to me. but maybe i wouldn't mind it if the cornering is that fun.

impossible to find one here in Canada, is the IS300 part available in Sewell as new? i can't seem to find it, anyone knows how much?

New differential assembly (complete) from a discount Lexus dealer in the USA would be about $3000 USD. (Retail is over $4000).

A new Scion differential from Toyota (complete) from a discount dealer in the USA would be about $2300 USD. (Retail is over $3100).

The Torsen T2 differential unit itself is less at about $2000 USD from a discount dealer.

Interestingly, the IS300 differential is cheaper in Canada, retailing at $2939.70 CDN, while the Torsen unit is quite a bit more, retailing at $4373.50 CDN. (WAT?!?)

To my understanding, yes it should be a bolt on, just swap the complete case.
The OP seems to be gone, hopefully he can let us know about any details/ issues or updates.

Either way, I will be installing mine when I get a chance, and hopefully get some pics and pointers for others trying to do the same.

Yup, it appears like there is a line forming up and waiting! There is a separate line of people in the IS F forum as well that want to upgrade thier 08-09 diffs.

The housing for the IS300, IS250 RWD, 09+ IS250 AWD and Scion FR-S are all the same, you do not need to reuse any of the IS differential parts if you are installing the FR-S assembly.

There could be a line forming but the real question will be how many will actually do it. I personally already did it once on my 6MT IS250 (second member to do it after Jeff).

Also the other thing that helps me is that I have two other cars that I can drive while the IS350 is down so that gives me the time to check if the IS350 ring and pinon gear would bolt up to the IS-F torsen.

^Yeah, I sold both of my Hondas in order to get the Lexus; but with a stay-at-home-wife, I've really got access to another car whenever I really need.

I've got my hooks into several Lexus specific parts yard owners and Lexus salvage dealers around in SC and GA that are looking out for IS-F parts for me. Just waiting on that call for the '10+ model yr unit; I keep telling them not to bother with the '08 & '09 ones. LOL!

I know i can find one here in miami, there's an area here that is 10 city blocks long that has nothing but salvage yards. I've just been to lazy to head there and go one by one to ask.

^Yeah, you've probably got a better chance of finding one in Miami than here. Very rare to see one around these parts.

Questions:
1) when buying used lsd out of an IS300 , is there any parts that could wear out inside the diff diminishing its locking performance, like clutches etc?
2) would it be better to just pay the extra & get a carrier out of an FRS or BRZ?
3) Lastly, how do you check if the differential is lsd if the tag is missing or unreadable?
Thanks in advance!

IS250 AT Final Drive = 3.73

The 4.1 FD of the FRS differential will make a more noticable acceleration difference in the IS250 AT version.
what is the avg cost for this upgrade?

1)
Yes, you will have to open the diff to be 100% sure.

2)
Maybe, it depends on what you want/ need.
A brand new one will be a bit expensive, if you are looking at used ones…It will be newer than a stock IS300 unit since those cars came out in 2013, but that is no guarantee that the unit is in perfect working conditions.

3)
From another post here in the forum:
On the IS300 information label, the axle code will be listed:
B01A = 3.73:1 (MT) Open
B01B or B01C = 3.73:1 (MT) LSD
B03A = 3.91:1 (AT) Open
B03B or B03C = 3.91:1 (AT) LSD

On the IS300 differential sticker, the code will be listed:
M82 = 3.73:1 (MT) Open
M86 = 3.73:1 (MT) LSD
M96 = 3.91:1 (AT) Open
M98 = 3.91:1 (AT) LSD

If you want a clutch type, you can go with a Supra MK3 LSD Clutch Type rear diff that also fits the IS250 RWD, I have one of those.

I believe that all FRS/BRZ in the USA were sold with a torsen LSD so you should not have a problem there.
