Man, mine is still sitting in the garage. Now I'm afraid to tackle this by myself.
Did you unbolt the axles from hub? or are you trying JoeZ mechanic's method of dropping diff then prying out and leaving axles hanging?
The 1IS seems easier due to the axle carriers but they have hard to reach back bolts against trunk.

You mentioned the axle seals are side specific? I found that the diagrams show the same part number 90311-47019 for L/R. This is on the diagrams from Lexus of South Atlanta. Can anyone confirm this for the IS250? I also previously had ordered a set of Timken axle seals from RockAuto. The design looks way different than OEM.
90311-43009 - RH and LH, IS250 RWD, 2009-2013 IS250 AWD
90311-47015 - RH and LH, 2006-2007 IS350
90311-47018 - RH, IS F, 2008-2013 IS350
90311-47019 - LH, IS F, 2008-2013 IS350
90311-47015 and 90311-47018/19 are interchangeable, but I assume the direction-specific type are likely an improvement.

The non-directional ones leak only when going forward or reverse. The directional ones only leak when backing up! J/K!
Over the past week I did get the 350 case cleaned and painted. My boneyard case had this little gem in there at the 90,000 mile fluid change.... Isn't it lovely!!!?
Built on Friday or overtime?
Best guess is it found the magnet early in life as the oil was pretty clean. More pictures here... 2013FSport Post #214

Long gears for XE10
Hey guys! Does someone know a way to get a lower gear ratio for XE10 (IS200)? The issue I have is that I have a 3UZ engine planted onto the car, but as I'm running the stock 4.1:1 LSD, the gears are way too short for the V8.
Right now what I know is that I could bolt-on a diff from manual IS300 (XE10) or IS250 (XE20), but those diffs have 3.6:1 ratio at minimum. I'd ideally like to go even lower, somewhere around 3.0:1. I know LS'es and IS220d's have those ratios I am after but their differential carriers are bigger. Could the gearings be swapped somehow though?
Please suggest a way to get ~3.0:1 LSD differential for XE10.

If you have the fab skills to install that, you could grab a 2.93 LSD from an IS-F. They share the same housing as most of the lager platforms in the Lexus RWD line up. i.e. RC, GS, LS...
The rear mount should be easy, it's the side mounts you'd need to modify and the axles would take some digging to either find a bolt in or swap parts around.
There finned versions and no fins.
Newer RC-F have LSD too. Same case... Do have a picture of the sub-frame?
No one here has done it, but the 2IS has two different sub-frames. One for the C and 350's and one for the 250's. They could be swapped. Not sure if that's possible in your case?
What trans you have behind that?

2IS axle removal
As there has been difficulty getting these axles out, here is what you need. Two prybars with bent tips, about like these.
The trick is not brute force or a BFH! The trick is applying equal force 180° apart so the stub pulls straight out. If all the force is on one side it tilts the axle just enough to force the snap ring deeper into the side gear making stub removal impossible.
Place these on both side 180 apart and apply a quick snap. a pop if you will. Slide a spacer in to keep the stub out, lower the housing and turn it to free the axle. Straighten the housing and remaining axle. Apply bars and pop it out.
Use the same pop method to seat the axle once the splines are aligned. Do not beat on the boot or it will puncture!

First and foremost it is about finding the differential with the right ratio and then finding and LSD for that. I should check whether the bigger housing can somehow be bolted to 1st gen IS. I know the regular housing from 2nd gen IS250 does fit bolt-on.
Also found another workaround which I'm planning to maybe give a try: use a 2nd gen Toyota RAV4 4WD diesel differential which should have about the right ratio and theoretically should fit into my current diff housing 1:1. Going to test that out and trying to attach my existing LSD unit onto that :fingers_crossed:. The only issue with this potential setup is that the stock differential is rather small and is known to not handle too much power.
As for gearbox right now I have BMW 5-speed manual with welded housing, but planning to change that to 6-speed (probably BMW as it is easiest to find) and attach with an adapter.

You mentioned wanting 3.00:1 and those are 2.93:1, I thought that would be pretty close to a home run.

$300 FRS BRZ LSD
https://www.ebay.com/itm/314305125062
One of you 250 owners should snag this!
And for anyone needing the axles out, I ended up using HF puller and two sections of 1/2" all thread as the prybars kept slipping off.
Take a look.

Issues with LSD?
I saw somewhere a little back ago that the FRS diff would pop a light when the idea first came up but thought I'd never get to it. Took the car to a couple canyon days and feel much better with brakes, LCAs, coils etc but now the open diff is limiting me. I have searched everywhere for some info on if the frs lsd would pop a light. I have a 6MT and read the gearing is 3.9. The 4.1 in the lsd from a frs/brz would be beneficial. I want to get one now but I want to make sure that the lsd doesn't pop a light because of the gearing difference. I've seen a couple now that say it doesn't, but their cars are all beat with lights for everything else so I am unsure. I want to know if anyone has done this swap for a good amount of miles and haven't had an issue or light pop. Thank you!

People have made far greater changes than this and multiple computers on-board don't care. Buy it, install it and enjoy. Can conform other 6MT owners have done this swap. You'll be fine.

Thank you! Just a stickler for lights and anything, ive heard it turns off traction so i was being cautious!
