Questions about axle-back install
For those of you who installed your own axle back exhaust... (Mine should be delivered today - I went with the Magnaflow)
1) Did you use or need an exhaust hanger tool to get the exhaust out of the mounts, or does it pull out pretty easy just by hand
2) Are the exhaust gaskets on each side reusable
3) Any other tricks that I should know that would help?
Thanks

1. Pulls out pretty easy by hand
2. There are no gaskets. You do re-use the hardware (spring and bolt)
3. No tricks. It's a little tight but within a few minutes it is over with.

So, I installed the Magnaflow axle-back today in my garage. In case anyone is on the fence about doing this themselves, it is incredibly easy.
1) I backed my car onto Rhino Ramps for better access. There is plenty of clearance under the front bumper, so no worries there.
2) I did find that there is an exhaust donut that needs to be reinstalled. It is #17451 in this exploded view from Sewell. http://is.sewellparts.com/oem-catalo...S350-2014.html
3) The factory bolt has a 14mm head. The Magnaflow kit comes with nuts; you will need a 17mm deep drive for those and a 14mm box wrench. The bolt is only partially threaded, so the nut travels to the end of the threads, compressing the spring and holding the joint together.
4) You do not need an exhaust hanger removal tool. The rubber hangers slide off easily just by using hands or a long screwdriver. I sprayed the rubber mounts with soapy water to make installation easier. It helps to have someone holding up the exhaust pipe while you pull the muffler out of its mounts.
5) When you remove the factory exhaust, the piping on the car tends to sag a little bit. After loosely bolting the flanges up, I used a floor jack positioned under the secondary cats to lift everything up. Then I checked the clearance around the exhaust tips for evenness and tightened the nuts. I found that a drop of oil on the bolt threads was helpful.
