Default Do Headers Hurt the Life of Your Car/Engine?

Just a question for those of you well knowledged on the subject of engine performance. Like the title says, do headers hurt your engine in the long run? or rather any part of the car.

Just curious, because before I jump the gun on a set of headers, I'd like to know that they won't kill my engine in two years.

Thank you Clubexus Members!

Hey RVCA

Headers will not hurt your engine. If anything you actually improve its longevity because you removed the restrictions. Its as if you were running with 5 lb ankle weights as Oem exhaust manifold. Now take those 5lbs off and you are relieving the weight making you more efficient as if you put on headers.

You removed the weight and you helped the engine exhale better. You may add a bit more heat but you can avoid that if you get ceramic coated headers.

The only damage to the engine will be due to increased heaviness in your right foot.

only if its a carb legal header, the gains are not worth the $$ you spend on carb legal headers, im pretty sure there arent any legal headers for our cars.

Headers are illegal if not carb legal like peyman said but since you are here in CA you can get a way with it for at least the first 5 years of a new car. Otherwise you have to take it to your "reputable shop" and pass the smog that way.

Carb legal headers are not worth the money just get mid pipe if you are that concerned with legalities because its a lot easier to uninstall and install that than headers if you have to.
