Default Smog Check - Joe Z/Invidia/F Sport

Just wanted to let you guys know that this set up passes just fine in California...

And California seems to be the craziest with emissions

Joe Z intake, Invidia Midpipe, and F Sport Exhaust

Did you have the F-Sport Carb Legal sticker on the JoeZ Intake or did it pass the visual fine without?

^ it should pass visual if it's visually inconspicuous, with or without a "CARB exempt/legal" sticker.

then again, most smog check stations don't know what they're looking at most of the time, and unless you fail the emissions portion of the testing they typically won't look too hard at things.

How did you pass visual with the midpipe? Where did you go?

I have a Megan midpipe, and when I did my smog, they never even bothered to check under the car. They just ran the test, and it passed with flying colors

My Joe Z does not have a sticker and it's the anodized blue so it's conspicuous haha

But honestly, they didn't pop the hood or check under the car

Interesting. I was planning on getting the blue JoeZ pipe also because I'm gonna paint my engine cover black and blue so I wanted things to match. I can easily keep the stock pipe and swap it for a smog check though, no biggy.

About the section the midpipe replaces, is it able to fit in our car for transport?

the OEM 2is midpipe will not fit in the 2is. you'll need a bigger car if you want to transport it.

A mid pipe is a partial cat delete.... I'm really surprised that you got a passed inspection in California with two of the OEM four cats missing. Great that you did, just think you got lucky!

It varies a bit from state to state but generally-

A good inspector doing a correct visual should look under the car, verify the correct # of cats, and verify they are original/working cats.

A barely-doing-enough inspector will look under the car and verify the expected # of cats.

Lazy inspectors just glance under the car and if they see anything vaguely cat-like waive it through without counting.

Really lazy inspectors just hook cars to the OBD2 port and if it passes that's it, no visual at all.

Dont' be surprised... The primary CAT's are still doing all the hard work..

The secondary CAT's just help the car be more green... (ULEV-II)

I know plenty of IS's & IS-F's that have easily passed the sniffer test with just the Primary CAT's in place..

Basically, if it passes the sniffer test and/or NO check engine codes via OBDII plug are present... The rest becomes a visual check, on whether or not you will Pass or Fail...

Actually, I made it fit. It can go thru the rear driver side door and diagonally through the car to the front passenger door. Very tight fit but it will be fine as long as you have some towels to protect your interior.

Hmm that's good to know. I would register my car in MA since I'm active duty military in San Diego, CA but a smog check is required to get base stickers to get on base. I could always store it in my apartment and just swap it whenever I need a smog or even have it cut and flanged for even easier transport/storage
