Default Megan Drift Spec True Dual - too raspy

So about a year ago, i ordered the megan drift spec axle back exhaust, and had my local exhaust shop chop it up to try a true dual set up. I also had them remove the resonator as well. It sounds great below 3500 rpms, but gets extremely raspy above 3500, and sounds horrible. I'm just wondering how to fix this? Would an x-pipe help smooth out the tone, or maybe toss resonators back in? Thanks in advance

Put your resonator back on or get a mid pipe

hmm, guess i'll post in the classifieds and try to get 2 resonators.

Any thoughts on adding an xpipe to the exhaust?

if you don't mind me asking, what's a "true dual" setup?

that center resonator is THE only thing that cuts the rasp out. You'll definitely need to get two bullet style resonators

yea, thats what I keep hearing. I also thought x-pipes also created a smoother tone, cutting out the rasp. i just don't want to spend the $ on getting the resonators installed and still have a bit of rasp, which is why im debating throwing on an x-pipe as well, which i'll most likely do

probably wouldnt hurt. I mean, we're talking about a negligble amount of loss/gain.

Each outlet has its own piping basically. On the stock exhaust, it's just one pipe that splits into two using a Y-pipe...

Here's the stock IS exhaust..

You can see how the stock exhaust flows into a single pipe and then back out into a dual using that Y pipe at the end to split it. But if you look at the true dual exhaust, you can see it has 2 separate pipes all the way down and doesn't join into a single pipe...hence the term "True Dual"

True dual will allow for more exhaust gas to escape quicker so you get better performance and makes for a better sounding exhaust. The disadvantage is the extra piping can add weight and slightly (better yet - negligibly) reduces the torque at the lower end of the RPMs.

OP - IMO, an X-pipe (or h pipe) is a must for a true dual system if you want it to flow correctly.

slight update even though i havent been on here in a month. Cars in the shop, apparently my secondary cats are clogged up, so those are getting removed. I'll be replacing them with an x pipe and 2 resonators, hopefully my car purrs now instead of sounding like a 99 civic =/
