K&N "performance intake kit"
I have recently been looking at getting some type of performance intake kit for my 2000 GS400, and I came across this: K&N 57 series performance Intake kit.

Is anyone familiar with this product? If so, is it worth it?
Thanks.

its not just the straight power gain, it is how it delivers that power
typically with these kits, lower rpm sees more gains and low-end power is much more noticeable
check out autoshepherd.com, we actually have a 12% sale on everything this weekend and includes the already very low priced K&N 57 series

I know I can find it for a very good price, much lower than the K&N asking price, I work for a car dealership, so I can pay "dealer costs" at pretty much any big name company that would sell this item. And a 9.5 whp gain and slightly better gas mileage isn't bad if I can find it for the right price.
For those who actually own this product, can you actually notice a difference in power?

I just installed the Ingen version for a 2001 430 and I like it. It seems to be more responsive then my OEM stock intake with a K and N filter. It is noisier at WOT, and mellow when cruising. I bought the Ingen since it was CARB certified since I live in California.

One problem I remember hearing was that K&N or any other intake can cause the engine to lean out...although I think the K&N is factory sized piping....but I remember people running larger diameter piping like what was from SRT and without their ECU box or a way to add some fuel with a piggyback controller then you risk getting check engine lights or danger of damaging engine....I don't remember the details so use the search feature and you will see what people were saying.

You mean the K&No filter? Noise is not a measure of horsepower.
From looking at K&N's own charts you loose power below 3500 rpm so if you are looking for better gas mileage I think you aren't going to be shifting above 3500 and ask yourself on wot will what you gained above 3500rpm make up for what you lost below 3500 rpm?
Conclusion:
Makes more noise
Let's much more dirt in
Loses power at the rpm you most use
Gains power at the redline
It's your money spend it like the government or spend it wisely

I'm talking about the K&N entire intake kit.

yes that's what I am talking about look here at the power gain curve. Tell me what you see below 3500 rpm?
This is for the one you are talking about

These aftermarket intakes are not worth it. I had SRT and K&N intakes and let me tell you, stock intake performs much better. I switched back to stock last week after having K&N for 2 years. Now my car pulls harder and gets better mpg. These aftermarket intakes all have the placebo effect.

Yeah, and another point where is the air warmer behind the radiator (where all these aftermarket intakes get their air) or in front of the radiator (where the stock intake gets it's air) just look at the scoop Lexus engineers whent to the trouble of adding for this very purpose

I'll say it's depending on the person. I have a K&N and I noticed that I lost power in the low rpm range, but a lot of ppl give compliments to the sound tho. But i do feel the gain once I am in the high rpm range
