Default Bad MAF = Throttle Lag?

For the past 6 or so months, my car has had some serious lag to it. At first I thought it was the TPS, but the car isn't throwing a CEL. I remember that about a month after I had cleaned my throttle body and MAF sensor, the lag came. In the mornings when it's cooler outside and the car is just warming up, it's not so bad. In the afternoons when it's super hot, it lags a bit. Since the CEL isn't on, could my issue be a bad MAF? I have 142k on the original. Thanks!

Unfortunately, I do not have any tools. I want to see if anyone has had similar symptoms.

Symptoms can be anything. If you don't have proper tools, you won't have proper diagnostics.

Well temperature compensation by the ecu which is influenced from the temp probe in the maf could cause a symptom such as easy start/good idle when cold and then hard to start/irregular idle when hot.

But I would not say just go buy a new maf. Throwing parts at a problem like many shops do on your dime is wasteful.. I would invest a few dollars in a multimeter to test it before I bought a new one, you will find tons of other uses for the meter in the future once you have one.

Thanks for your input. I'll have to invest in a Multimeter to truly diagnose the issue.

I recommend getting a DMM that has at least 20 Mega ohms of internal resistance. It will be fairly accurate. If you got money, invest in a FLUKE. If you want an even BETTER meter, look up SNAP-ON Vantage on eBay. It's a lab scope used to test sensors. Very efficient tool.

Older the better.. They don't make them like they used to, now that Danaher bought them a while back.
Danaher will be doing what they do to every company they purchase, cut expenses/employee's/manufacturing costs/r&d and source what's left of it overseas. Pocket the money and let the company dissolve a long slow death hanging on by it's previous reputation as long as the public will turn a blind eye for.

Danaher is the devil.

You probably already tried this, but sensor cleaner... and clean the entire sensor in the MAF.

Before I went GTE I had throttle lag, didnt think much of it at first until I stalled at a traffic light. Started the car right up, got home.

Cleaned the sensor, but still had lag.

When I looked at it again, I had missed the entire bottom of the sensor. After that never had a problem with the MAF. Then went GTE.

What do you mean by "bottom part"? I just went out and sprayed out where the hot wires are. Is there somewhere else I should spray? I have the CRC Maf cleaner.

You must also clean the bulb shape and the wire connecting to it.

I missed it at first, but when I cleaned it it solved the lag.

But thats if you missed it during the first cleaning.

CRC is what I used as well. Let it dry for 10 min.

There is also a thin wire in the circle at the top/ bottom (depending ) on how you are holding the MAF.

Could you please post a picture so I could see what you're talking about? Still a little unsure.
