Evaporative Monitor not ready
Hi All,
My inspection failed (NY state) few days ago because both monitors of the O2 sensor and the Evaporative system are not ready!!! I guess this happened because I've reset the codes after replacing the O2 sensor (B1 S1). The shop advised me to drive the car for 50 miles in different driving conditions, e.g. city traffic, highway, ...etc. and gave my 10 days extension.
I drove about 90 mikes so far, I got the O2 monitor OK, but the Evap monitor is still incomplete (not ready). Only 6 days to the inspection deadline!
I'd like to know what else should I do to get the Evap ready?
Thanks,
Moore

Thanks for reply,
There seems to be some set of criteria that have to be met for the Evap system to activate, including weather temperature, among other things like speed and driving pattern! I just learned about this but for other car makes like Ford! Not sure if it still applies here. I think I should find the driving pattern and right condition to trigger the Evap system to work!
Many thanks,
Moore

You need to do the drive cycle properly to complete evap. It's a pain sometimes. Gotta do the process on a cold car, first drive after sitting overnight. Google obd 2 drive cycle, I was typing it out but I'm on my phone. Follow the pattern to a t. You really need a good scanner so you can watch the monitors run as you drive.
Just driving will eventually set the monitor but if you need it done fast, you have to follow the process. Evap really needs the car run to full temp, then left alone overnight, then run through the cycle. If it's happy, it will do the leak checks and report back success.

This link has the best directions for the drive cycle. You do not HAVE to have a scan tool to do this, although when I'm performing this sequence I bring one to monitor them as they go. It may say ford, but the driving instructions are sufficient for almost any make.
Notice the last step is to let it rest, then do it all over again. Don't clear the codes the second day!!! That clears monitors.

Dear Dscustoms,
Just a quick note to tell you that the instructions really worked, and the Evap monitor is set! Today I cruised at 55 mph for about 20 minutes (double the recommended time) then checked the OBD and it is set!
Thanks again for your time,
Moore
