Well, perhaps I used the terminology incorrectly? By flush I mean I replaced all the fluid and changed the filter. Perhaps that's just a fluid replace? I did specify the instructions I used for this procedure. It did not include chemicals or a machine.

Yes, that is a drain and refill with filter change. If you do a flush, you have to use machines that physically hook up to the lines in and out of the entire transmission system, run chemicals through under pressure, and "clean" out any build up in there. It's very rarely actually needed, which I'm sure is the reason for the recommendation. Those who do not DIY may ask for a tranny flush, which can significantly damage the tranny. Replacing the fluid and filter by simply draining it shouldn't create any problems if done correctly (and those instructions look to be pretty complete).

yes, drain and fill will not break any gunk loose (shouldn't anyways). the reason I posted what I did was because some people that don't DIY and take it to a shop may ask for a flush...then that's when the trouble arises, regardless of your instructions that you used.

Hard to say, really. Mine was pink and looked good too at 86,000 miles.

Ok from the completely inaccurate to the truth. A flush replaces the fluid with new fluid. This is accomplished with a machine that interrupts the fluid flow somewhere and takes out the old fluid while putting in new fluid, some machines do it through the dipstick as well. There are no chemicals involved, what you describe is a fuel system flush. The bs about it hurting your vehicle is just that, bs. That's an old wives tale from the days of cheap fluid and junk materials in the clutches. Your transmission, and any modern car, is using such high quality fluid and materials that you likely never have to change the transmission filter. It should outlast the car. It doesn't hurt, and by 100-150k there is probably some dirt in there bur not enough to restrict flow.

The fluid needs to be changed, at it's service interval and with the correct fluid. Drain and fill is when you dump the contents of the pan and fill, this is only about 1/3 to 1/2 the fluid in there. You should have a shop do the flush, with a machine, not bother trying yourself. You can't exchange all the fluid properly.
