In VA, any alteration to the OEM exhaust is considered an infraction. That means that any aftermarket exhaust is illegal - the HKS is targeted because it's the most noticeable visually.

However, most cops in the area will only ticket it if they pull you for something else.

Most states have that same law, just depends on if they enforce it or not.

VA has always been super strict. I'm a MD resident and was driving in Fairfax County, VA in my SC and got pulled over for my exhaust he then cited me for tint but unlike MD I didn't have to take off the tint just pay a fine.

Washington State has the same type law... Illegal to install an exhaust that has a higher volume than OEM.
Wish our police would start enforcing it more.... The ricer teens and Harleys' are getting way too annoying any more....And its getting worse daily...

I started taking written copies of the RCW(Revised Code of Washington) to all the muffler shops, letting them know that by installing them, they too were breaking the law. (You can guess the reaction I got....)

Time to write the State and get our officers up to speed like yours!

In Oakland they are finding the whistle tips annoying but I'm not sure it's illegal. Well.... unless someone complains to PETA that there are hamsters in his pipes.

That's why my bro-in-law always upshift early when a cop car is approaching. He has to keep his exhaust noise down. They'll nail you if your exhaust is over certain db.

Plus we also got smog inspection to worry about. If the exhaust isn't CARB approved... it will fail the visual.

I feel sorry for the rice boyz here. They have to keep the stock exhausts and parts in the garage for smog day.

Here are some more video clips of the F-Sport Exhaust & Intake + Invidia Midpipe combo: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...a-midpipe.html

If you're getting pulled over, you might want to consider the F-Sport exhaust. It has a nice deep tone and smaller tips. Or have a muffler shop redo your tips, as others suggested.

So with the VA's law, can they not sell F-Sport edition 2IS's?
