Default Aftermarket Catback Exhausts - Who's Da Best?

It's been a while, so I thought maybe some input from the folks who have installed different exhaust systems might like to weigh in with the benefits or problems associated with their systems.

Also which has the best sound and why?

Any real added hp? Better all around?

Anybody go back to stock? And why?

When the stock parts are removed, do they all fit in the trunk or will I need a truck to get them home?

Questions, questions, questions.

The reason I'm asking is because today I test drove a 2010 Infiniti G37 and the sound was real sweet.

My IS350 is way quieter and I"m thinking maybe an exhaust upgrade would make me happy.

Chime in with any exhaust related info....Please.

F-Sport + Invidia.

Most aggressive sound out of an IS I've heard(I worked at a Lexus Service dept. for over 2.5 years and have heard a lot of different exhaust setups on customers cars.)

HP? I haven't dyno'd but one week at the track I ran a 8.72 avgerage. Next week tried keeping as many variables the same (weight in car, gas tank, same track, tire pressure, and temps were 3 degrees warmer the week after, still a lot of variables) and my best run was 8.49.

Stock parts will NOT fit in your car.
What are you rev'ing to in those videos? I need to make a video of my Borla.

In terms of power I believe the Borla dyno's the highest than the JoeZ race version with no secondary cats.

100% subjective. I bought a Lexus to not have a loud car, hence I went with the Tanabe. Others want the opposite.

All the axle-backs (which is nearly all of them) will add about 7 rwhp on a 350. I've never seen any significant difference, power-wise, between them, just noise differences.

For the "full" exhausts pretty much you've got the Joe Z which has outstanding fit/finish, and adds about 8-10 hp depending if you put cats on it or not.... and the Borla which is reportedly slightly higher, but at least initially had some fit/finish issues.

Some folks do an axle-back with a midpipe, but the midpipe is several hundred bucks for 1-2 hp (and more noise with usually less legality).

If you're doing an axle-back just do it yourself at home. Back on to some rhino ramps and it'll take you like 15 minutes, then no worries about transporting the stock system.

my HKS had too much cabin noise, lms sounds beautiful but hard to come by & i think i might have lost power w/ it too , JoeZ is nice.. kinda miss the sound of the lms though...

depends how you define the BEST SOUND
do you want something quiet but still hear your exhaust at WOT? then you should get Tanabe
do you hear your exhaust at all times and hear the AGGRESSIVE sound at WOT? then you should get JoeZ/F-Sports/Greddy/Borla or HKS HiPower (this is loud)

and if you want to add some HP and make it little louder, just add a midpipe

I've had Tanabe..and then added a midpipe..and then sold my Tanabe and bought the Wald Quad Exhaust..
I've heard Tanabe..Fabulous..Borla..FSport..Lexus HKS..HKS HiPower..Greddy..JoeZ in person..and they all have their unique sound
so I would suggest that you hear them in person because everyone is different when it comes down to the BEST SOUND..lol

Any real added hp? Better all around?
you mean little HP?? mine is noticeable but not that much..

Anybody go back to stock? And why?
still have my set up..and I love it~! so does everyone

When the stock parts are removed, do they all fit in the trunk or will I need a truck to get them home?
you will need a truck..our OEM exhaust is one-piece so it won't fit

if you do a search, you will find a lot of members trying to make our car sound like G35/37/350Z..
and I just wanted to let you know that it's not going to happen
it's a different car with two different engines..SOME members say that their car sounds very similar to G35, but I've heard MOST of exhausts sound, and nothing sounded similar to G35..
trust me..I know how G35 sounds like

SeOuLiS250: Excellent information.

Thanks everybody.

Now I just have to find someone in the RI area that have any of the above installed so I can hear them.

You guys always leave the Megan Racing catback out of the discussion when talking about exhausts.

Clearly I'm biased because this is what I have on my car, but I do believe that it sounds amazing.

HKS HIPOWER is LOUD, cabin noise is intense. I will be getting silencers soon to lower the DB's by 7. hopefully it helps.
