SRT intake comes with a "ecu". It's actually just a signal conditioner that tricks the MAF into thinking it's still in a stock sized intake piping.

the SRT intake will give u around 15-20 bhp i think
also if ur on a budget just fab a pipe that goes from the maf to the throttle body, the lexus intake is really good the main thing that holds it back is the resonator which would be deleted if you did that

There is very little between cheaper and more expensive. The deal with the SRT intake is that it is actually larger than normal, and requires a computer piggy back to adjust the A/F accordingly so it doesn't pull a code or whatever. The others are all pretty much the same thing except some people use plastic and some use aluminum. Obviously the SRT is pretty much king the king, but you get what you pay for... If you buy some cheap pipe off of ebay, it might not fit your MAF, might be the wrong bend, etc. Likewise, you might be extremely lucky and find a scion/toyota intake for another vehicle that uses the same MAF and that is roughly the same size as the intake.

About the intake resonator, I think that its job is to reduce a little noise, but I think the main job is to add additional air for low end torque, that was my understanding, so it's not as if it hurts performance, it simply causes air to no flow directly from the MAF to the TB, but it's not as if it's a wall in there or anything.

has anybody with the SRT intake considered using a dremel to cut a U in the top of the heat shield so that the "air scoop" from the stock intake could be bolted back into place and provide more fresh cold air to the intake?

I have the weapon r on my 03/GS300. I haven't had any problems with it at all. I got it used for $150 or so. For the money I have no issues with it... I myself can not see paying $499-599 for the SRT. Unless I can get it used. IMO

The best cold air intake would be a home made intake.

I have a (true) CAI from LMS. They custom installed it so the K&N filter is OUTSIDE the engine bay down by the passenger fog light. That way you pull COLD air into the throttle body instead of HOT air from the motor! I'm saving up some cash so I can finally pick up a catback exhaust to complement the header, and hook up my NEO. Then I plan on getting it on the dyno to fine tune the bolt ons to see what kind of gains I get. Anyway, try Luxury Motorsports and see if they still sell/install performance parts.

Hey Czech...what model GS do you have? I don't think K&N makes a kit for the GS300.

I'd like to see that proven on a Dynojet

From my experience, K&N always bull****s about their gains.

For my car i custom made one, I eliminated the intake muffler, fabbed up a custom pipe (80mm i think), and used an HKS SMF filter, gained 6.8whp on the dyno.

do you have any pictures of the cold air intake? especially where the air filter is sitting outside the engine.
thanks
