Default 8/4/09 Dyno results GS430

Well i finally installed my afc neo last week and went in for a dyno tune today @ Full Blown Motorsports.

MODS - Injen intake, L-tuned mufflers, AFC NEO, couple other little things

The results are...

First Pull, no tune - 245.3 whp @ 330 ft lbs Tq

Last pull, Tuned - 275.9 whp @ 350 ft lbs Tq

I was pretty impressed at the results. Well have video up soon if anybody's interested.

Also meet up with another GS owner at the shop, it was our first time seeing a GS on the dyno.. Finally someone in MN that i saw with a GS he said he comes on here also, sorry i didn't get your name but Nice looking GS400. Let me know when you gonna dyno yours, so i can swing by to check it out.

Nice numbers man...makes me want to try a different dyno shop.

Do you have a torque converter? Your torque numbers seem really inflated. I realize that you have a 430 and the torque is about 15ftlbs more than a 400 but don't forget those are "crank" numbers (i.e. 12wtq). I am showing 306wtq WITH headers. I thought for sure you would be around 300-305wtq with your setup (without headers). Even with your pre-tune 330wtq #'s...it equates to ~410 tq at the crank (20% loss through the drivetrain) and from stock you only added an Injen intake and L-tuned mufflers??? So in other words you gained ~80 tq at the crank (65wtq) over a stock GS430 with just an intake and exhaust. Who knows...

The guy I went to never tuned a GS4 ever except for mine once in 2008 and once recently (there was one other member "Clive" that I referred to this shop also. The tuner also mentioned that it was hard to hold the gear correctly on the dyno as he was getting inflated torque numbers so needless to say it was taking a long time to dyno my car that day.

That member Clive has a 400 and his dyno with tuning his NEO (no headers) was around 266whp and 264wtq; he was upset (post #22 shows final results).

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...-3-6-09-a.html

...Also, some dyno's show more accurate numbers. Not trying to rain on your parade it's just that a gain of 80 ftlbs of torque (crank) over bone stock from just an intake and exhaust (your baseline run) sounds a little questionable.

Maybe I will try another shop soon after I change my MAF sensor. 30whp with just a tune is crazy! If you get the headers and a re-tune I predict just somewhere around 295-300whp.

fyi...stock GS430's "should" yield right around 240whp & 265wtq (300hp & 330tq @ the crank) assuming the 20% drivetrain loss that is the norm with these cars.

well he did say in his initial posts, plus a few goodies. It would be good to share what the goodies are if they have anything to do with the engine. Giving dyno numbers is great, but it would be more helpful to disclose what other things might have helped to make power. small things like spark plug type and plug gap, oil used and even the type of filter used and even the dyno type used. These small things can make differences in hp.

Anyways, great numbers on the dyno.

Hey Denut-L, nice results. Full blown motorsports is really reputable, and I doubt they really fudged with the numbers, not saying they are right, but they dyno turbo IS3's, customs, and sorts of other rods, they seem to be pretty close, that being said, if you went back to dyno it, it probably woulnd't give you same numbers, close but not the same. Anyways, thats nice to see that you haven't done too much, yet your making a little more beef than factory, I'm diggin' it.

For his mods the whp numbers are right on but the torque numbers IMHO are way off. I think the FI GS4 guys are just about hitting the 350wtq figures with around 390whp. I'd like to see those dyno sheets also.

First of all great power!

That said I agree with Rock on this. The torque numbers are definitely suspect.

The stock engine makes 300hp/325tq so it borderline impossible to see a torque reading that is 85lb/ft MORE than the 245 HP reading STOCK. (245hp/330tq)

Since it is very difficult to make dyno pulls below 4000rpm (due to the transmission wanting to downshift) and seeing that the stock torque peak on a GS430 is at 3400rpm which means torque will be dropping off as RPMs go higher. So, stock 325tq at engine typically gives apx 250-260+/- at the wheels so 330tq is just too far out of parameters to be believable.

All the above said... still GREAT power!

I am very curious if the stock ECU will "re-learn" and "de-tune" a car after being driven. Rock had great tuned numbers but something caused him to loose his settings before the header install so it is hard to know what the long term power will be from tuning alone.

Lastly, the stock exhaust manifolds on the 430 engines are WORSE than the 400s. With a larger engine trying to move more exhaust this is an obvious choke point. With tuning to increase power and thus increase flow even more... you get the picture. Headers seem like a no brainer from where I am looking

i remember i was at a Supra Dyno meet... pretty much a RWD dyno.. anyways my friend with a prelude decided he wanted to go dyno his car and yea. Vtec screamed and the reading said he had... 170 WHP... and something like 270 lbs of torque lol...

u can tell something is wrong =p
