Default GS400 Transmission - Manual Mode

Hi,

I'm swapping an Aristo 2jz-gte motor and trans into my 98 SC300. Where the GS part comes in is that I'm trying to figure out how to get the manual mode shifting function working on the Aristo and I know the GS400 has the same trans and feature.

I have factory wiring diagrams and already located the ecu pins that control upshifting and downshifting but I cannot figure out how the trans is shifted from drive to manual. Does anyone know the details behind this? I know the GS400 has a gated shifter with either "D" or "M" being selected by moving the shifter side to side but what signal does this send to the trans? I thought it would be an electronic signal but can't find any info in the wiring manual so is it mechanical? I've searched all over the place and come up empty handed so any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Phil
