Some say you should disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for 15, 30, or even 60 minutes I've seen mentioned.

Others say just pull the fuse. I did this for two minutes, put the fuse back in and noticed a difference.

Since pulling the fuse is a WHOLE lot simpler than disconnecting the battery (no tools needed, not messy, didn't lose seat memories, etc.), why is the battery method considered?

I've wondered the same thing... I think it may have been because there were a number of posts a couple of years ago on the old CL board where no one could really answer the question "how do I reset the ECU" and yanking the battery cable was the only way to get it done. Then someone finally read the fusebox lid.

I've only done the fuse method myself. Clean and easy.

Where is the fuse located? Do I have to wait when pulling the fuse?

Do what dealership techs do, remove the ecu cover and unplug it for 5 minutes. Only 3 10mm bolts! You don't lose any radio or seat memories.

In the GS4 engine bay, if you are standing at the front of the car, it is just below the battery, and the cover can be removed with a little force, with no bolts, and the fuse puller is just inside the box.

Just pullin your chain a little Bit.

I choose the terminal method because, I guess, I don't have as much to loose (Nav related) and my socket almost always has the 10mm loaded on it anyway. A couple of tunrs, and voila, done.

I don't have to mess with pulling the fuse, dropping it, losing it, losing the puller, or breaking any associated parts.

Kind of like a quick format and reload.

Pulling Fuse? If you do reset ECU once a week, I would not remove the FUSE. Overtime the constant removing Fuse might loose the connection... Cost more in the long run replace Fuse holder. Battery terminal? Nothing to loose other than the memory.. How often do you listen to your radio?

Uhm....I've been wondering about this for sometime now, why does someone reset the ECU ? I heard mentioned that it will reset the 'learning mode' of the transmission, is this true ? AN what other benefits exist ?

I reset my ECU yesterday. I left it out for about 90 min. It just so happens that before this, the UP/Down motion on ny steering wheel quit working. Yep, resetting the ECU solved this problem. As far as the performance benefit goes, on my car it really made a big difference. Maybe b/c it hasn't been reset since it left the factory and it is about to hit 60K soon. Clublexus and the info within is a priceless tool I am glad to have!

Fuse. Really easy, clean, and simple with the plastic tool supplied.
The car really pulls much harder now. Throttle response is excellent.

Hey 400DGRZ:

I try to reset my ECU tonight and try to pull the fuse beside ECU which is bigger and I was not able to pull it use the white plastic tool and my hand. Your post remind me that I should able to do it which means something wrong then I found out I almost pull the wrong one. Thanks!!

BTW, throttle response is immediately and it won't jump when I lightly apply the gas. Dexter!! Thank you for the great information.

DD, where is the ECU cover and the 3- 10mm bolts that hold the cover on? Also, once the cover is off, what needs to be done next?

I prefer this route rather than the fuse route.
