97 SC400 Getrag V160 6-speed swap thread
The purpose of this thread is to inform the Lexus community of my project as it happens. Right now the car is up in the air and the subframe assembly is getting ready to come out. I thought I would start by sharing everything I have collect for my swap.
Here is the 97 Supra TT subframe assembly. I plan on swapping the entire unit since this is a low miles assembly.

Here are the EBC green stuff pads

Hurst Roll control
TT PWR 4 core radiator with electric fans. I am doing this since I no longer need a tranny cooler

Momo shift **** and some carbon fiber pedals that I haven’t decided if I will use.

Where did you get that subframe? I've never seen a differential case corroded that much. Mine's 14 years old and still the original black.
Also, if you ever need to work on that gearbox, it's one of the later model ones. They came in two flavors - early and late. Early production ended 10/93. They have different synchros and synchro hubs. I have an early one and updated all the internals when I rebuilt mine. The easy way to tell the difference is the direction the bolts go into the intermediate case. Early models have all the bolt heads toward the rear. Later models have them mixed on the tailshaft housing.

I don't know why its so rusty, its not a lot different than the one I took out of my 97. I guess midwest roads, ice and salt are the culprit. It is supposed to be a 97 tranny.

After I had the option of doing it both ways, I decided against pulling the entire subframe. IMO, I would rather not mess with the factory alignment of the subframe and swapping the diff and brakes are a breeze. There aren't any added benefits of having a "supra" subframe so its pointless as well. I was in the same situation and swapping the pieces instead of the unit was much much easier than I expected. I wouldnt want to try to maneuver a subframe in/out of the car either. Good Luck with the swap and I would like to help if you have any questions.
