Default CEL code-hi stall TC related?

Tried searching but maybe my search skills aren't getting the job done...
Recently I've had an intermittent CEL coming on and then going off a day or two later. Then it stays off for a while (days or weeks) and comes back on.
Went in for a smog check with the light on and they read a code PO770 which says "Shift Sol E Malfunction". Is this the code some of you were getting with the PI TC installed? I have a GS400 and thought this only happened on the GS430?
One interesting thing is that even though the smog guy reset the code (no CEL) the smog check computer still picks up the code! So you can have a malfunction code even without the CEL coming on...
Thanks for any info on this!

yes i think that's the code people get. talk to jacobT, he had the code. and i don't think all gs400 can get away with the code. i believe i have seen a few cases of that. rare though, on the gs400

and yes, the code will stay on the car for a while before it cleans up, i believe it's not until about 100 miles.

and don't even think about reseting the battery. it will clears everything, but as soon as they plug it in it says empty and they will ask you to drive the car for 100 miles to registers all reading first

Default Thanks Henry,

Just don't want to go to the dealer to have it diagnosed only to have them tell me it's because of my PI TC causing the CEL. I need to get the car smogged successfully pretty soon to get my tags though. Maybe the light will stay off for 100 miles and I'll try again.
Honestly, didn't think it happened on the GS400 just the 430...

well just go to a place that doesn't plug into the reader! that's what my friend did, brought the car to a relatively old style smog station with the ecu reset and he came out "clean"

That would be great, but I'm not sure how to go about finding a place with old fashioned equipment that won't read my OBDII port! Guess I could just call around and ask a bunch of questions- or maybe someone in So. Cal knows a "good" shop...?
If the CEL code that I'm getting really is related to the TC, I can live with the light periodically coming on and off if I have to, but the problem is getting the car smogged every two years.
Just have to go in with the CEL in one of the "off periods". But I'm wondering if there could be some other problem and not just assume that it is the TC causing the CEL?
What a PITA...
