Injen Intake owners!

A posting from Shagadelic from IS300.net indicated that there is a design flaw with the intake. This info is coming directly from Injen's designer, Paul.
The intake causes fluctuations of the RPMs and low gas mileage. Injen is redesigning the intake. I could be out as soon as the end of the month...it might be a cold air system. Paul told Shagadelic to uninstall the intake and re-install the stock unit until further notice.
I'm e-mailing Injen directly to find out more info.
As soon as I hear something, I'll post it.

This isn't a good situation for us Injen owners! [COLOR=red]

I e-mailed Phillip at Injen and he is fowarding my e-mail to engineering. They are getting an IS into there shop to narrow down the problems. Meanwhile, he is asking everyone who has the intake to e-mail him.
Explain the problems which you are experiencing.
His e-mail address is: Phillip@Injen.com

If any new info, I'll post it...everyone do the same.

I also emailed Phillip and I'm hoping for a fast response.

The shop were I bought the Intake, the owner is a friend. He told me they are "a solid company who, respond in a responsible manner with customer complaints"

Now for our sake lets hope he's not kidding. I have installed the fogger of my NOS system on this pipe. So I'm already not happy to have to change it. I seriously hope they make it "RIGHT".

Everyone please post how they respond to this complaint.

Good Luck

It seems like they are working on a solution, even though I'm a little impatient. At least they have responded to my emails, in a professional manner. Below I'm including quotes of their responses to my emails:

We are currently looking into this problem and will have a solution in the
near future. Please be patient while we figure this out. I'm sure our
managers will do what is right if there will be a recall on the IS300
intake. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Best Regards,

Phillip Phong
Injen Technology

and here is the other,

Dear customer:
Thank you for your input. We have put are best minds in the engineering dept.
to pinpoint the source of the problem with the IS300 intake. At this point we
cannot determine if it is a problem with the intake or the onboard compuetr
chip. We estimate that within two to three weeks we will have found a
solution.
We will contact you as soon as we have corrected the problem.
Thank you:

Ron D
Injen Technology

As you guys can see, they're responding as well as we can expect for NOW. We just have to be patient until they find the solution. And I hope they will respond to our expectations.

I will keep you guys posted

I have installed the Injen intake on my IS and it Runs Great! There is however something i did that where not in the instructions and these parts did not come with the intake i produce clamps for all the little hoses from my exerience at autohaus i realized that if any of the hose where to leak air it could well cause all the problems that some of you are reporting ruff idle car dying on heavy accl. and or after heavy accl.bad fuel mileage yes less horse power and torque at any rate even if this doesn't help at like $6 and some change its worth a try!!!!!

That's Nice

Now try taking the car to the track, or put it on the dyno. You will see a loss in hp on the low end.

And if you take it to the track you will notice a decrease in e.t. maybe a little better in mph.

in any case, let us know your progress.

There aren’t any tracks where I live but i can tell you this without going to the track my brother inlaw has a Celica GTS with Injen Intake and Borla Exhaust its very fast we raced on a street that is 1/4 mile before a cross street we measured with a rolling measuring tape and he beat me by a whole car length after putting on the intake resetting my ECU and allowing a week for the ECU to relearn we ran again and it was so close we would have to have been standing on the curb at the cross street to tell who won this may not be proof to you but to me its all I need for proof!!!

Question

CarbonIS300,

What was the tempeture outside the day you raced...was it above 80 degree?
My IS loses HP when it gets really hot outside, not enough cool air gets into the intake. My problem fluctuates...sometimes it seems it has better HP and sometimes it seems to lose HP.
I'm getting AREA 51's BLACKBOX, so I'll see if this corrects my problem.

When installed, I'll keep everyone posted!

Try putting on the heat shield, cause I think it helps a lot. I have the same problem with u guys (car stalls under heavy acceleration), but after I wait for my filter to cool down, and put on the heat shield, it ran much better. My dyno run (with no Injen) was at 168 rwhp (didn't refer in a post on is300.net), and it raised to 172 with Injen and heat shield. So, hope this might be helpful.

MarkK,
I had my heatshield on, but I decided to take it off.
It seems to lose low end acceleration with it on.
I can feel the difference right after I took it off.
I don't have access to a dyno...is it possible for you to dyno it without the heatshield and see if there is a difference in HP?
Thanks!

That doesn't make any sense!!

Are you talking about the injen heatshield? or do you have a heatshield for your exhaust manifold?

If it's the exhaust manifold heat shield, the pipe should be cooler. Thus helping maintain the intake air cooler. Without an exhaust heat shield the pipe, gets too HOT.
On hot days, the car feels considerably slower.

I'm talking about the useless heatshield from Injen.

Hmmm, that kind of sounds familiar, during our R&D phase we had this problem, it took us many, many hours of actual road testing to figure out the problem, but we worked it our BEFORE the release of the product.

PS. Try this:
At speeds above 40mph, release the accelerator pedal and let the car coast, then put the car in Neutral and see if the engine stalls. (Try the same and turn the AC on) If it does then you definitely have a design flaw.
