Put me down as another gs300 owner with the exact same problem..... I don't know that the hell it is...Tanny does not slip... but there is a delay in the shifting from 2nd to 3rd. I just did a drain and fill (second one) with a Lucas and toyota brand type 4 tranny fluid.

When i did the first drain and fill it got better and drove ok for about 1000 miles.

I need to get on the highway to get it all flowing.

I trying to see if it goes away this second time.

I have similiar problem. I have done next:
1. drain and refill atf fluid - no improvements
2. clean maf sensor - slight temporal improvement
3. tighten throttle cable - tranny behavior changed (earlier it slugged in case of gas pedal depressing after releasing and jerked (sometimes while 1 -> 2 shift), now it just jerk (sometimes while 2->3 shift (as seems)).
The problem appear while slow drive (e.g. in traffic) and right after it.
The most annoying problem

I've solved the problem - removing efi fuse for 5-10 minutes.

2003 GS with similar issue. Nearly every full stop or slow down below 15mph I get a major lag in tranny. Sometimes if I depress throttle ~5-10% you can feel the pedal vibrating slightly as its lagging. Typical issue is sluggish and to major lag unless I floor it. But anytime I am slowing down around a sharp turn and hit gas less than 50% it lags..

Check engine light has been off and on for last 3 years for the MAF sensor (that's the sensor in the intake pipe right?). I have cleaned it once a year with MAF cleaner and that helped with check engine light but this tranny issue has been going on for 6 months.

Will try cleaning the sensor, then resetting ECU w battery disconnect. If that fails I will try the EFI fuse...
Hopefully this helps.

Btw, tranny fluid has never been changed and I have 125K on it. Is it still safe to change? I have heard you shouldn't change tranny fluid after a certain point if you never have as you can ruin the tranny by doing so. Not sure is this is an old wives tail or has merit...

Change the transmission fluid (Make sure they flush is out) & while you are at it the differentials fluids as well

So I cleaned the sensor, reset the ECU and pulled the fuses for EFI (while car was off, guessing it should be on or it doesn't do anything)

Car seems to not be sluggish and is responding to throttle much quicker now... BUT it's kinda jerking hard into gear when I decelerate to bout 5-15 mph from higher speed and then hit the gas.. The harder I hit the gas the harder it jerks into gear

Will flushing the tranny fix this?

Sorry to ask but what are differential fluids? I replace a clutch or manual tranny but don't know much about internals of an Automatic tranny. This is my first Auto in 20 years.

Yes....make sure they flush it. All GS had this issue. There is a lot of gunk in there.
