Question Reputation of company "www.rebuilt-toyota-engines.com"

Has anybody done business with these people? If so, could you give me some feedback? I need a new engine and my Dad said he found this site that has a long block for $3400... I'd much rather have a short block. Any comments about the company/website? Thanks!!

I think you can do much better price.

you can buy a rear ended SC300 for less than that price.
you can also try local junk yards.....

I think that website is a redirect website and not a company...

good luck.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there an issue with those new castings. Something about tolerance and crank journals or what? Maybe not, so don't take this as gospel. Just a "rumor".

Thanks Wiz; I asked "DaveH" about it yesterday and he recommended the same place. As far as that rumor goes, I have no idea... PLEASE POST if you can either prove or dispell it!

That is correct, the ge bloack are more expensive than gte blocks. Most liekly because they carry over to the Lexus lineup. Get a used block an be done with it.

Also, can anybody confirmwhat this guy from Storm Performance told me? If so, could you tell me why. Thanks!
Series of E-mails goes like this (I took out some unrelated stuff):

I have a couple of questions:
Is it possible to run one of the GTE engines w/o boost?

Yes but it would be very very slow.
Thanks!
Mark
Mark,
Thanks for your response! As far as the GTE being slow without boost, it wouldn't be any slower than the GE, correct? Same basic internals, just a few minor differences.

It would be much slower than the GE.
Thanks!
Mark

This was from Mark Beckford <mark@stormperformance.net> of Storm Performance.

Why would you wanna run a GTE engine (longblock im assuming) w/o Boost? The GTE has lower compression than the GE's.

Can't afford to slap a turbo on right now; the new GTE shortblock is $1900 vs. GE for $3700-3900. It would save me money in the long run, esp if I can still use the stock ecu till I can run a small turbo on it. However, I forgot I would have to get the longblock since the heads are different... crap.
Thanks for the feedback!

*EDIT* I forgot about the compression difference...well, if I switch to the GE hg, then I would very close to the same compression, right? I know the pistons are different, but the thinner gasket would aide in raising CR.

GE head bolts onto the GTE block (not sure if your able to use stock ecu after that though), I just dont see if as feasible if your not going turbo. Id just find a used GE shortblock and replaces yours.
