Exclamation What the hell is wrong with my car

Took my car to the track today for the first time, and I am very dissapointed to say the least. Anyways my first run was 16.4 1/4 and 2.6 60ft. I finally cut it down to 16.0 and 2.3 or 2.4 60ft. either way this is a disrespect for us turbo owners, my first run everyone was like "Is that turbo..." {me reply yes} Then they would say "well I will be looking for you when you run" by the time I was done everyone was very dissapointed including myself. Basically all of the mods in my sig, and I was tuned for 11.5-12.0 A/F. I have not messed with timing, so it is all stock. any clues as to a possible cause for the crappy times? ohh yeah, these were all at 6 psi.

I am not sure of what experience you have with drag racing, but if this was your first time at the track, then you should not be too worried about your times. My first time at the track I ran a 13.4@108 in my MR2 turbo. I was totally bummed out cuz i spent all this money on making it go fast and all i was hitting was 13s. From that day on, I spent a year dialing in my car and getting some track time in the drivers seat. About year from my 13.4, I finally ran an 11.8@116 thats with NO additional power modifications other than getting everything tuned and playing with different tires, clutches, and different launch techniques. I finally reached my goal of getting kicked off the track for not having a rollcage. That just goes to show you, you may not get the times you expect the first time on the track. It will take plenty of seat time for you to learn and experience things about drag racing and your car in particular that no one else can teach you in a class or on a forum.

With that being said, is your car tuned? How much HP are you putting to the wheels? How high is the elevation is the track? Cars that are tuned at sea level will run like crap at higher elevations. Traction is a major problem. No point in making all that power if you are just spinning your tires all the way down the track. A 2.3 60ft is something a FWD honda could get easily. For a RWD car on good tires, the 60ft. times should dip below the 2.0 mark. For every .1 seconds you knock off your 60 ft. time, you usually gain .2 seconds at the end of the 1/4 mile. If you are not getting good traction on the launch, you are probably not getting good traction the whole way down the track. What kind of tires were you running and what psi. were the tires set to? Also, what is your MPH at the end of the 1/4 mile? That is a good indication of how much power your car is making and if it is making as much as it should. My suggestion is to get back out there and work on your launch. That is one of the most important aspects of drag racing. Good luck to you and I apologize if I am just repeating what you already know....

Rockin' street tires on a 3500lb+ car ... it is VERY difficult to pull sub-2.0 60ft times. On drag radials, no problem ...

Just got done doing some searching. Maybe my car wasn't getting boost, or was getting partial boost, because I looked at peoples times and I saw two threads where stock AT sc300s were running 16.2-16.3. and their MPH were actually faster than mine!!! So here is all of the data from my best run
R/T .469
60' 2.528
330 6.900
1/8 10.417
MPH 70.35
1000 13.473
1/4 16.048
MPH 87.95

I know that my driving needs improvment, but I am almost positive something is not right with my car, do you guys have any ideas? I was thinking maybe a vacumn leak?

You DEFINITELY were not seeing boost or something is critically wrong. Those are stock times. Were you watching your boost guage ?

Agreed, at 87.95mph you were definately not putting out enough HP.

would a blown HG cause this problem? I checked my coolant today, and on top there is oil I will know for sure when I drain the motor oil, and coolant tommorow.

yes, if you have a blown headgasket, you can't always have full power (I have seen cars with blown HG's run pretty strong, but I would not suggest it)

What you need to do is :
compression test
chemical leak-down test

Does your oil have foamy bubbles in it as well?

Good luck, man. I know how you feel.

Yeah, the only thing that leads me to believe the head gasket is not broken is the fact that the car runs flawlessly. I really hope I didn`t drive 1 hour home from the track on the freeway with coolant in my oil. I am going to go check the oil in a couple of minutes, Kinda been avoiding it because I don`t want to realize my fears... {SIGH}.

got some pics of the fluid that I drained from my radiator. By no means does it look good, but I am not sure it is oil. If it was oil would it not seperate from the water/antifreeze mix?
