Default EGR Block-Off Plate Kit

Hey folks, anyone tried this on the SC300? I wonder if the Supra Turbo one will fit on our engine.

Notes:

The factory EGR system was designed to assist in emissions reduction by allowing hot exhaust gases to be recirculated into the cool incoming air within the intake manifold. While this was a great idea from an emissions standpoint, it has horrible effects on a turbocharged vehicle that relies on cool charge air temperatures to make horsepower. Even removing the vacuum hose from the EGR valve does not stop this process, as exhaust backpressure still manages to open the valve under boost. Stop these hot gasses from ruining your cool air the right way, by installing a pair of PHR EGR block-off plates! Machined from 1/8" 6061 Aluminum and hand-polished for a show-quality appearance. Accept no cheap imitations cut from thin material that warps and leaks, go with the best! Price: $90.00

I use the egr block-off plates for the supra. I had to open-up one of the holes in the plate for the TB for it to fit. Had no other problems. I have a 92 that did'nt have the egr temp sensor, so I did'nt have to use the resistor to fool the sensor. Goto horsepowerfreaks.com and select MK3 Supra as your vehicle. They have been running a sale on them for months. $45.00. They look like the same ones I paid 90 for. Hope this helps.

Thanks! Did you notice any performance gains?

Hermosa,

I know that this place in Arlington called Complete Engineering sells the block off plates for our cars. I bought my EGR block off plates from them. They want $40 for them..

Thanks! Last thing I want is 1500 degree exhaust going into my intake.

Will any of these fit a 400? I've been looking for one for a while. Thanks.

Doesn't the EGR have something to do with emissions testing? Will you still be able to pass inspection with the block off plate?

Take the gasket, trace it on a piece of steel, and make the plates yourself.

I passed emmissions with the EGR block off. My readings were not near the limit. In Ohio, they do an idle test and a 30mph rolling dyno test. The most important factor for me was to put on a new and working catalytic converter. Its a pretty stringent test, but I don't know how it compares to other states.

Looks like thats what I'll have to do for the 400. Thanks. Do you know what other hoses need to be blocked/plugged? What about the VCS? (I think thats what is attached to the EGR....but I'm going from memory of reading the workshop manual....and my memory is bad).

Hey Keith,

This is off topic but I noticed the 13B in your name and was wondering if you would ever try putting in a 13B into an SC300.

No, but I've put a 20b (3-rotor) into a mustang before (as well as FD's). I've also put 13b's into a VW's and ultralites. I've put a 12A onto a lawnmower for a "Toolman" competition. I've made air boats out of them (13b).....and even made a generator with one. They are nice, small, and powerful. They lend easily to NOS and I have a friend w/ an RX-8 that I'll get to play with as far as porting goes, but it looks like Mazda has done a good job on the intake side..its the exhaust ports that can be opened up for a little overlap to lengthen the higher rpm's.

I've lived and breathed rotarys all my life, and my Lex is my first piston engin car I've ever owned. If I were to put a rotary on the SC, It would be a 3-rotor for sure with twin non sequential turbos. The 13b would just be way too small, and would throw off the weight balance of the SC. Plus, the added Hp for the heavier car would be better too. I might try to do it if I had a doner SC 300- I have several spare engines and tranny's sitting around....hmmmmmmm. Now you got me thinking.

hehe... (13B in ultralite) That's just what I want when I'm at 5000 feet nothing but forest and mountains below. Funny stuff.

It was sweet, I used 2- 13b's on a solid wing stunt ultralight in a push configuration. Street ported with a 7 psi supercharger on each. It wasn't cheap, but each engine put out over 315 hp at the fly. Everything was mild on the motor for reliability issues. The thing screamed- I got to go on a ride with it.......now I'm a pilot and all, but I like to stick to planes with a floor in them! That lawnmower with wings was about twice as fast as a 172, and the friggin wings would bow under hig g's. Needless to say I enjoyed the ride but was glad to be on the ground.
