Yes I agree. When I do a tranny swap on mine I might take it apart myself and try to learn a little bit while im at it.

So guess what guys? My tranny finally failed. I was getting acquainted with my new coworker and his 01 vw gti. I beat him but I ended the tranny in the process. Basically it was acting like if I was clutch kicking the car while crusing. It was disengaging and the engine revs would go up (slipping). I would have to let off the gas for it to get back to normal but a few seconds later it would do it again. The slower I was driving the worse it got. When I got into my neighborhood driving 25mph it was un-drivable and since I made my exhaust louder I was making a lot of attention for myself. It sounded like I was being a **** down the road. So this is where I threw in the towel and have started a swap.

If anyone has noticed a post on here for the A650E = Unknown territory, that is the project I am working on currently for my car. I will be completely disassembling the A340E and finding out what exactly went wrong after the swap is finished.

As I have stated I am going to take apart my tranny to find out what exactly went wrong and I decided to buy genuine Lexus service/repair manuals to help me rebuild my blown A340E and hopefully bring it back. I bought both the 1uz and the 2jz(sc300) books to also help me compare these models and see the difference and surprisingly there are a few differences between these trannys. here is the pic.

I was thinking of doing this mod recently and even bought the switch for it but now i have decided not to. I am worried about what it MAY do to my trans. with a switch if i were to just leave it on constantly would the CEL go away then in a 99?

I don't know how it affects the compiters on the 98, 99 and 00 cuz those use the a650e and not the a340e. On the cars with a340e there was no light. In my 92 sc400 I actually ended up putting in a a650e (regret it) and I will tell u now that if u think the a340e is sensitive the a650e is worse and does not like to be ****ed with. Good call on your part

The CEL split is '95-96 for OBDI vs OBDII, not '97-98 by tranny type, as I recall.
