probaubly a bad thermostat. try that, the part is only a couple of bucks and i have heard of sc owners having problems with overheating and it turned out to be the thermostat.

Default WOW!

Sounds like your bloody mechanic (spanner guy) needed some extra cash quick! I just completed the water pump job, and is not a picknick, that's for sure! Takes about 14 hours for "first timmers".

I would have started with testing the thermostat, then check the radiator for flow, then check for a combustion leak in the cooling system (dye test), THEN and only then suspect the water pump if it was not leaking or making strange noises. My pump leaked as it's failure mode, but never caused overheating. I sure hope that your spanner guy changed the timing belt out at the same time, as that needs to be removed as part of the process (to get to the H2o pump), and is a cheap part, as compared to the labor to get to it.

Finally, I would consider replacing the radiator, especially if you have years/miles on it. We can get NEW metal/metal replacements in the States for around $200.00. Much better quality than OEM (IMO).

Good luck, but I would have second thoughts about using your spanner man again, as he went for the last thing that would be suspected, unless there was visible evidence of the water pump failing (leak, noise, etc).

Good Luck!

Post Thanks to all.

Thanks Guys.
Maybe i did not explain myself to good , but my mechanic is a Toyota Service Manager that also does work on the side. The last thing he said to me was when the stat was removed he could not see any water flow.
Rad OK ?

If it isn't the Radiator, then I have no idea, unless something got stuck in one of the inlets/outlets. This is a first for me, and I have been working under the bonnet for over 30 years!

Good luck!
