Default Question about cam/ crank sensors and location

Hey guys, I recently purchased my sc400 and the previous owner states the driver side cam position sensor is broken which is whats causing it not to start. I have tried to start the car, sounds like it wants to start but just doesn't turn over. After researching, is the car supposed to start even without this sensor? Also does anyone know if the crank/ cam sensors are the same part number? I have the sensor he broke; toyota 90919-05003. It comes up as both sensors. Is there a picture of exactly where this sensor is located?
