So,
i have a Spectre air filter on my Turbo. I read a few stories online about the inner cap being sucked right into turbos, destroying them. I read some K&N have oil issues. What is the safest, best filter for the turbo? Is there a place to get intake pipes of various sizes to make one extend to behind my headlight. I will go custom if I must but If I can measure, and buy one the right bend and length, that would be great. I am using a 9' filter so the pipe would not need to be long.

I have 4" K&N on mine.....and I just bought a 45 degree 4" mandrel aluminum pipe and cut it to fit....

I have ordered a lot of stuff from those guys....site can be a little buggy at times....but just be patient

Feel free to PM if you have any questions...you should be able to get the pipe to tuck right up against your headlight how I did mine

I have the spectre but have been planning on ordering an aem dryflow, they come in different lengths which is nice plan to order a pretty long one. most 4" intake pipes will do the job and get you closer to the headlight where you can get a little fresher air. I would look into fitting the stock fan shroud back on also =)

That's just beautiful man. I ordered a K&N 4x9 that should be here tomorrow. I'm going to figure out the weird angle my pipe needs to be to get bast the intake, and miss the fan. I'll figure out the angle and length and contact your guys. Thanks!
Do I have to just eyeball the bend angle? I looked for 4" silicone couplers made by Mishimoto as thats what's used elsewhere in my car but I only see 3". What brand is 4" and will hold up on a turbo? What are you using?

I know there is loads of BS on the net but a guy I know actually saw the aftermath in this case. Same exact filter I have. I then found a few on the net. HERE this is a quick one I just found. Maybe heat loosens the glue up on some batches.
My shroud is trash man. Cracked in 3 places. Do I need a Supra shroud for it?

thanks for the heads up will be removing that filter soon then, didn't even think about that.
I think if you are still using the SC fan clutch then you can use an SC shroud. supra fan you would want to use the supra shroud.

K&N intake and the bigger the better , GTE or NA-T. The more fresh air you can divert to your turbo the happier your engine will be and the more power it makes.

Got a 6" K&N filter on my new sleeper . Btw, it is a lot cheaper buying mandrel bents from the manufacturers like Heavy Duty Manufacturing . Most of these motorsports shops just buy them and put their mark up.

Studio I purchased the intake pipe, 4" coupler and air filter all from that link I shared with you

Once you get the pipe mock it up and cut a few inches off each end until it fits how you want......I assume you got the mandrel aluminum pipe

do any of you guys have experience with both the AEM dryflow and the K&N.
I will be ordering one as soon as I get some feedback, I thought I liked the dryflow better but seems most are running the K&N and the K&N seems to be a safe bet.
Been a while since I cut some piping, you guys use a sawzall or the chain wrench. I think my chain wrench is completely dull after going through 2 intercooler kits.

I think I might just remove that metal thing in there for now, I guess there will be a hole at the top.. Moar airflow? lol

I have always used K&N on all my vehicles....just dont waste your time with that damn oil you are supposed to put on filter....all it does is make a mess....

I cut my IC piping with a grinder....ie cut off wheel......then took an abrasive drive bit and finished off the sharp edges of the cut piece....

Of course you will have to clean out all the pipes to remove the aluminum dust and debris......I washed all pieces with soap/water and then cleaned each one with brake cleaner....

A sawzall would do the job as well....to make it easier on yourself mark the pipes with a sharpie all the way around before you cut them so you can get a straight cut...

Mann, I wish I could do something like cut a pipe, with a grinder........ In our small Manhattan apartment LOL.
I hope you guys don't take your backyards, driveways, GARAGES (yummmm) or even quiet streets with a parking space open in front of the house to work on your cars.
It looks like this in front of my house, you can't even pull over, much less park. This will change soon though. Time for the burbs..

My wife is cool and allows me to have half an Sc tucked away in the apartment, metal shards flying around is not going to happen man.
I was hasty, the 9" filter is too big and 45 degree pipe is too sharp. My intake piping and exposed fan make the fit difficult. The pipe will have to be cut at the bend to reduce angle and a smaller filter will have to be purchased.

If you have a vacuum or even a broom and dust pan, you can easily clean up the negligible mess a hacksaw makes. There won't be metal going anywhere but directly below the cut. Heck, just put some newspaper below your work space.

K&N makes a variety of filters with angled flanges to help with tight fits. Not all sizes offer them, though.

I had an HKS dome filter on mine and it was awesome, never a problem, sucked plenty of air. If you were N/A I'd also suggest the HKS panel filter, as it is doing me some good right now.
