simple solution to tired trunk struts
I've had new trunk struts on my to-do list for nearly five months now. This past week, I took the trunk lid liner off to get a closer look at spoiler attachment points, as I've been brainstorming different paint jobs. To my pleasant surprise, removing the liner allows the tired struts to keep the trunk open with ease. It'll even stay open when lowered halfway.
It's not a temperature issue, either, as it is staying open this way at 20+ degrees cooler than it wouldn't stay open with the the liner in place. So, if your struts are borderline, this is an easy way to extend their useful life.

A temporary fix that involves no money and very little time is a bad thing? You can bet I'll post back with how long the fix holds up. Whether it lasts a week or a year, I just put that $30 into better projects in the meantime.
Not all cars even have that liner. Most people probably wouldn't notice it's missing.

I took the spoiler off last night for some refinishing work. Sans-spoiler, the trunk struts easily lift the lid on their own once I raise it about an inch. So yeah, removing the liner makes a pretty big difference on struts that still have a fair bit of life in them.
