The out of box Toyota Reman sub amp came in today (talk about fast service!) and after installing it I have a crisp and clear subwoofer channel again! I still cannot believe I found a unicorn so easily.

Matguy and t2d2, thank you for all your help! I couldn't have done it without you both!

I'll happily take second billing, because I don't think I offered much irreplaceable help when all was said and done.

The sound is perfect now. Maybe better than before but I think that's because I'm no longer consciously aware of a constant 1600Hz tone behind my head. I can't ask for more. How I convinced myself to put up with that for a whole year I am at a loss to explain.

Really-- thank you matguy!

Stock AMP sucks mine went out and lost rear left channel. I understand why people want to keep it stock though, I bypassed everything when I did the touch screen, removed and thrown in the garbage!!

I am not looking forward to that happening and finding a replacement! I totally get why the stock setup would be useless if you wanted a touchscreen. I'm just the opposite though-- I LOVE the extremely simple factory system. And I'd rather keep it stock than try to figure out how to rewire the system. I'm already doing that to my engine-- it's enough as is! And I really don't ask for much more from the stereo than it was designed to do in the first place. Now the engine and chassis in general... that's another story.

To each his own : )
