Ive only done it by dropping the diff and removing the nut in the center holding it in from the spindle. They dropped out of the spindle but my axles were rusted into the diff so I couldn't get them to disconnect from that end. From what Ive read the way to get them off is to get a slide hammer and a special axle removal tool if they are rusted like mine. There is most likely a way to get them off without dropping the diff by disconnecting one control arms to give enough slack. There might be enough slack in the axles themselves to slip them out. How are you going to press out the bearing without removing the spindle?

Mark the flange connection [1/2 shafts and the differential] and separate them by undoing the 6 Allen head bolts. Raise both rear wheels of the ground and spin the wheels to get better access to the Allen bolts 1 or 2 at a time. Once separated support the 1/2 shafts and make sure the ends are not pulled to prevent separating the flex joint.
Since I was replacing the output seals, I had to drop the exhaust. Not a biggie, but I think you wont have to.
Match marks on reassembly.
