Default Replacing 2JZGE w/ another 2JZGE

Hi guys, this is my first post and I could really use some help. I'm looking to buy an SC300/400 but its hard to find one with under 100k miles in my area. I was thinking of buying a high mileage SC300/400 for relatively cheap (there is no shortage of them), but one with a nice interior and body, then swapping in another lower mileage 2JZ or 1UZ from a wrecked SC. I believe I possess all the physical and mechanical skills to complete this swap, thats why I am here. I need to know if there is anything else that I'm not seeing that could cause me trouble down the line. Also, how interchangable are these engines. I understand that the 2JZ was found in aside from other SC300's, NA Supra's as well as GS300's, and later on IS300's, and the 1UZ was found in the LS400. Now, I would most likely have to avoid VVTI, right? So an IS300 or later GS300 or LS400 would be out of the question. I originally intended to go through with a GTE swap but the GTE is simply too hard to find and too expensive. One last question, does the 2.5L twin turbo Soarer engine bolt in, or are custom mounts required? I know it will bolt up to a NA Supra 5-speed tranny but don't know about an auto. Also, the prospect of routing intercooler piping scares me . Well, I hope I didn't ask too much of my first post, but I would greatly appreciate it if you guys could help me out, I can't wait to get my SC!

Welcome aboard!

Do a quick search (upper left hand corner) on what your looking for such as 2jz gte, engine swap, and so on under this forum and you will turn up tons of information. I'm sure someone else will chime in soon with something more useful, but this is the way I found out most of my info. Good luck on your voyage!

The 1jzgte motor will bolt up using your existing mounts my suggestion if you go that route is to get a front cut of a soarer and do the swap.

Thanks for the help guys, problem is I really want to go with an automatic. This car will be my daily driver and I have to drive through deadlocked traffic every day. With the 1JZ, parts will be extremely difficult to find from what I understand, and that makes me nervous, since I don't really want to have to wait weeks and pay big bucks for parts. What I'm really thinking is that I should just pay 5-7k for a SC with 100k+ miles and drive it till it dies and swap in another stock 2JZ-GE or 1UZ-FE. Like I said, I don't need this car to be my hot rod, just a luxurious sporty coupe that I can drive around town.

240Z,

You'll be surprised that a lot of the SC owners here have clocked around 150~180K+ miles! I reckon you should also do the 1JZ Soarer swap. Parts you can get custom made for it, and most Japanese performance companies would supply parts for this engine, it's just a matter of looking around for the best price for the parts you want.

you'll only have to drive it 5 more years before it dies 300k is a very accurate timeframe for the 400's. i believe the 300's dont last near as long though.

why's this? the 300 has the beefier motor

300s and 400s from what i know last a VERY long time... i know of 2 SC400s that have posted on this very forum that have over 450k still on original engine and tranny
and 1 sc300 that has 380k miles... was sold here in town a couple weeks ago and it ran perfectly fine

why more SC4s than SC3s that i've found? i just seem to bump into more people with SC4s... alot of people buy the SC3 and think its a low-end lexus... they just don't realize they bought a car with more potential
