thx for replying. just a regular car no mods. 197000 miles on it, automatic. puchased a used mass airflow sensor earlier, going to put it on after work......hopefully thats it. what kind of symptoms if its the fuel pump? what kind of symptoms for a bad fuel ecu? this car is so ****ing strange. no codes, no check enjine light. turns on just fine, idles great and strong then put in to drive, within 20 feet, dead, wont turn on. i would have to wait several hours for it turn on again.

The part about it having to wait several hours to start again makes me think it has to be either ECU or fuel pump ECU. What else would have a reset period like that? The fuel pump ECU seems less likely, but you can test it out by jumpering the Fp and +b pins in the engine bay diagnostic port to bypass it.

Narrowed it down to 3 things. Fuel pump, fuel pump ecu, or (probably and) this saturn looking thing. What is it? Sprayed some water/soap on it and lots of bubbles from the top.

Ok. I did the bypass . Car turned on. Pulled the bypass paper clip, immediately died. I'm not smart enough to add this all together........bad fuel pump? Bad fuel pump relay? Annnnnnd. I pulled top of gas tank out, now the gas gauge isn't reading. fml!!!!!

It's not the fuel pump, because all you did was bypass the fuel pump ECU and that got it running. So, you can safely assume it's the fuel pump ECU. You can either buy a used one or just permanently bypass it with the "12V fuel pump ECU mod." I chose to drive around with mine temporarily bypassed (diagnostic box jumper) before cutting and soldering the pump ECU out of the loop for good. My pump ECU turned out to not be bad, but one of my car's quirks made it more convenient to permanently disable it.

Thank you. Not sure which option I'll choose but thx for the help. Hopefully this damn demon car will get going sooner than later. Still very very very very pessimistic that this is the solution . Lol.
