Default How much trans fluid to add?

To make a long and tedious story short, if after driving the car for about 4-5 miles and the temperature being correct, and parking on flat ground and shifting through all the gears and giving the fluid time to settle with the engine running....if the dipstick reads just at the lower end of the cold level, how much fluid do I need to add to get it into the proper range for hot?

It seems that through this whole procedure of a filter change, it's never been as black and white as throwing 2 quarts back in it like all the walkthroughs said, I have NEVER gotten a consistent reading no matter how or when I checked it. So I'm about to say to hell with it, if it's half a quart needed to get it from cold to warm, that's all I'm throwing in and saying to hell with it if it's too little or too much.

I know on oil dipsticks if it reads in a certain range, it's common knowledge it's half a quart, or a full quart low or whatever, but I have never had that luck with this damn transmission service.

Prob. not all the way warmed up after 4-5 miles, so I would start with 1/2 quart, drive, then recheck.
