I have a 95 SC400. I don't want to put a SC 300 alternator in, I just have it and need to replace my current one. I bought an alternator from Gazi Ali who's "parting out 10 cars" here on CL. I didn't figure out it was from a SC300 until after I had it sent in to be upgraded.
I have no idea what exact year it came from, other than it has the oval connection that from what I've uncovered changed in the 95+ models. Physically I know it's a bit smaller in diameter.
It's now rated at 225 amp vs. the standard 100 amp for my car. The 300 was rated at ~90 amps.
Is there any place on the alternator that will have a stamp that indicates year it was made?
TIA

Tried to install it yesterday. Turns out my 95 SC400 does NOT have the oval connection, but a rectangular one.
So, does anyone need a SC300 alternator rebuilt to 225 Amps/135 @ idle?

I've got a question. For early SC's (at least SC300's) that originally came with round alternator plugs can the same three electrode pins from that original round plug fit the newer oval style plug or must the correct electrode wires be procured and then spliced into the SC's engine harness to do this?
This would be for someone wanting to adapt an alternator with the oval plug to an early SC that takes a round plug alternator.

Thank you bigwhite - yes, you are correct it is oval. But it's too much of a PITA to force fit the 300 alt on the 400, so have my original one off and sending it to get upgraded.
I appreciate your help.
