You will need to run a flex plate / ring gear from a JZ auto trans under what ever flywheel you use, std starter fits works all good! I often do this with a little top hat shape flywheel and tilton race clutch, works perfectly but not suitable for street use, maybe a larger version could be machined up to take an m3 clutch or something?
you are completely puzzled. Please stop being drinking and posting for best results.

Both my M20b25 and my S52b32 in original chassis (e30, E36M) with original gearboxes attached have the starter on the USA driver side ENGINE

BMW transmissions do NOT hold the starter; the starter is bolted to the engine and underneath the intake manifold

I've read through this whole thread as it developed and took a few mis-steps, but I don't recall for certain if anyone mentioned that there's an eBay seller (pmc_tuning) in Poland selling both 2JZ and 1UZ "BMW M20 M50 S50 M52 M57" adapter plates for $320 shipped overseas. (Edit: I posted the pre-conversion price accidentally.) I think someone mentioned a Euro source...

I hadn't seen them pop up in searches until today, but maybe they've been listed for a while. All the Toyota and Nissan adapter plates I've seen are in the $300-500 range. This seems pretty competitive, and the seller has excellent feedback.

there was something available and then it was taken down on the US ebay. I guess its back? interesting.
just checked it out, they have adapter plates for 2jz and 1uz to bmw, also they have both of those to a 350z also.
doesn't mention anything about flywheel/clutch but one would have to address that too.

Bumping this thread to inform that there is now a complete adapter kit listed on eBay UK:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1JZ-2JZ-Ma...item35f2c5c858

PMC Motorsport, of Poland, also offers a kit that cost about $600 before shipping. Look them up on Facebook.

I hope someone figures this out. I really don't want to bite the bullet on a v160.

I am waiting to hear what clutch options they might recommend for their kit with a m57 gearbox...PMC that is.

Here's something related that I ran across this week:

http://www.widowsportscars.co.uk/#!v8-engine/c1vat

It's for the 1UZ (Who knew there's a Miata swap kit?! I thought that had only been done by a couple people as one-offs.), but they have adapters for BMW trannys.

That adapter kit listed on that site looks like the one listed for $1830 dollars on the eBay UK site.

I'm still waiting for a reply from PMC. I would love to run this kit with an M57 diesel trans behind it. You can also run the Sachs 765 pressure plate and get some impressive torque capacity from them.

..anything further on running a 6-speed zf with one of these adapters? The gearing with all of the 5 speed ads make me nervous. I had one in my e36m with a 3.38 rear gear and it is way too short for high power cars..though I have a 3.15 to go in.

Ok..I just heard back from PMC and here are the findings..

PMC's new flywheel
PMC's adapter plate
Stock BMW pressure plate/clutch disc
Stock BMW clutch release bearing
Stock JZ pilot bearing
Stock JZ auto flex plate

This flywheel/adapter will fit the Sachs Performance 765 pressure plate, which offers some fairly impressive torque ratings. The ratings are largely thought to be very underrated as many guys have pushed this pressure plate and 6 puck discs well into the 7-800hp/600+ wtq range.

It will accept the M57 5-speed ZF trans used in diesel BMWs along with the ZF 5-speed found in the E36 M3.

The picture they posted is of the flywheel/adapter mounted up using an E60 M57 PP/disc sassembly, but they confirmed the 765 pressure plate will work also.

They sell you all of the hardware that is needed to bolt onto a JZ.

The auto flex plate goes underneath the flywheel (between the flywheel and end of the crank).

This is really exciting to hear from them and they have been more than willing to answer all of my questions! I think I am going to reassemble my CD009 and go with the 530D gearbox for my swap..the spacing on the shifter I am not sure of yet, but that is a simple fix..

I was unsuccessful in finding a diesel box to be shipped to the US for a reasonable price..

..so I picked up a E46 Getrag 420g that was converted from a SMG box. I intend to use this with a Sachs 765 pressure plate and a Southbend Feramic disc which is rated for 600tq. I will post progress as I make it. I am awaiting PMC to tell me they have the flywheels in stock and I will be placing my order with them for a flywheel/adapter plate/etc..transmission will be here tomorrow!

Ok, so the Getrag from the E46 M3(420g) arrived yesterday. Here are some side by side shots of it versus the CD009 Nissan transmission..

*This is just the bellhousing of the CD009, since I have it apart currently..but the size comparison is shocking. I knew the CD009 was bigger, but it is a LOT bigger than the Getrag..

thats the 6 speed getrag?? the size difference is huge.
really thinking about ditching the 350z trans option now and going with this they have a page on facebook with more details and they have the new flywheel made to work with the adapter and any normal bmw clutch kit, so its looking like the bmw trans just nudged the CD009 over. and the shifter can literally be placed anywhere behind the trans just have to mount the shifter and get those 2 rods to the right length. pretty impressive stuff.

let us know how the converted smg feels, been looking at that option it doesn't seem too difficult to convert one back to manual adding the couple pins or whatever. keep us posted and thanks for posting those pics.

Yes, that is the E46 M3 getrag (S6S-420g). It is the same as the E39 6-speed, except for the bellhousing and the input shaft.

I have exchanged a TON of emails with PMC about their adapter kit and flywheel and they have been awesome to deal with thus far. I hope to have the adapter/flywheel from them by months end. This transmission is a LOT shorter also. I know that with it behind a BMW engine the shifter position is correct for a E36 (since the euro cars came with this transmission also, but that one is internally a little different) so that would tell me the shifter position for the SC chassis should be very very close as well.

The conversion s not hard from what I have read..a little machining on the bellhousing, acquire the manual parts that mount in the bellhousing, tap one hole, plug a couple others and it is done. I will be sure to update as I go.

As I said I am going to use the Sachs 765 pressure plate with the SB disc..I hope it is not too heavy, but with the M3 slave it shouldn't be too bad. Others have said with the 325 slave that pressure plate can be a bit heavy.
