Oil Dipstick Lenght
I'm a relatively new owner of my SC300 and this is the second time that I've changed the oil (synthetic) on this car. The shop manual calls for 5.1 Qts. with filter change. After the oil and filter, my dipstick had about a 1/4 " on the indicator. The oil was cool so I understand that there will be some expansion when it's hot but I can't believe that it will expand that much to reigister full on the stick. The last time that I changed it, I thought that maybe I had only added 4 qts.. The only thing that I can think of for the discrepancy is that maybe the previous owner lost his dipstick and replaced it with a wrong one. So, I've measured the lenght of my stick from the base of the tee handle (not the ribbed portion) to the bottom of the stick and came up with 21.25". If any of you have an opportunity to check yours on the 300, please let me know what you came up with. If I go with the present reading, my capacity is 6 qts. and I don't really want to overfill the oil. Thanks.

There were a couple of TSB's issued that related to oil capacity changes for the SC300's. I don't suscribe to Alldata, yet, but there was a TSB in Feb93 #PG93001 and one in Sep94 #PG94003. Could someone check those out for me? The shop manual is handy but TSB's are not covered, obviously.

I checked with the dealer today on the oil capacity for my SC300. My dipstick is OK . Even though the owner's manual specifies 4 qts with filter change, the shop manual specifies 5 qts. the actual capacity is "6" qts.. But then again, most of you probably new that.
