Default Fuel Pump ECU Rebuild

Has anyone ever considered rebuilding their fuel pump ecu. Can it even be done? Seems they go out much more often that the main ecu.

I think there was a thread where someone had pics of all the insides, but not sure if it was done or not.

I asked about it somewhere along the line, in terms of if there are capacitors to replace and whether that's the cause of them going bad frequently, and was told they're sealed and not serviceable.

The people at Tanin said it is cheaper to buy a used one than have it rebuilt.

That's what I thought...you can pick a used Fuel ECU up for maybe 30 bucks...to rebuild that would just cover the cost of the capacitors (or whatever the case may be). Thanks for letting us know, Banks!

The problem with that is, assuming it is the same worn capacitors issue, you may buy a used replacement that's also close to going bad. I'd rather spend $50 to properly rebuild one for another 20+ years of functionality than spend $30 for a used one that may die within the year.

If it's like the main ECU, a) the capacitors are beyond their shelf life on all of these cars, and b) the replacement cost of the capacitors themselves is about $1. The unknown is whether there's something else in these pump ECUs that commonly goes bad, and with no one servicing them, we may never know.

If someone wants to send one in we will take a look at what's inside and replace any capacitors for free. No idea if it will fix them since we don't have any way of testing them here.

We will just charge shipping back to you.

That way going forward we will know if they can be "rebuilt" with new capacitors or not.

^^^ Thumbs up! Whether it's cost effective is obviously TBD, but I imagine it'll be a great service to offer as more and more of these units go belly up.

My pump ecu is functional, so it probably wouldn't do you much good, but it's off the car and could be sent in if you thought it would help with testing, i.e., differentiating good from bad behavior.

Most bypass it because it becomes problematic. The point of this thread is to see if that can be resolved.

Mines working also so who has a bad one to send in. Thanks for the offer Tanin it would be another very useful service for SC's in general.
Most people bypass it the not so safe way, and I would like to see less of that for safety reasons.

I have a bad one. Just replaced it with a used one I got from Aliga. I will send it to Tanin this weekend. Tanin just keeps proving their commitment to our club. Thanks.
